I have come to realize that it is to be expected. It's almost inevitable that this type of mentality rises up when any type of organization forms around a great being. It's been going on for centuries (just look at the religious right and the hatred they writhe in all in the name of Jesus, who was in truth, the same as our Amma.). There will always be this and I guess it is just part of the whole experience. I prefer to go directly to the source. The room dissolves around me, and all I see is Her. I have lowered my expectations of the group mentality while at the same time remaining completely open to each individuals divinity. Who can say, "Amma forbids this or that."? Who can dare speak for her but in the name of Love? It is very easy to fall into the trap of twisting the teachers beliefs to suit the maya of the personality. How many people have died as a result of such things? She is beyond all we think we know of this world and everything in it. Indeed, she IS all we know in this world and everything in it. She IS the DANCE. She IS the touch of the healer and the massage therapist. SHE IS the kiss that springs from Pure Love. SHE IS THAT.. What is there for her to forbid, really? Herself? The advice she gives to one person may not be relevant to someone else....or it may be precisely relevant...or it may appear as irrelevant and turn out to be relevant 5 years later...or in another lifetime....or not at all. We can't pin her down, we can't cage THAT for our own sake.People will try though, it seems almost part of the human psyche HAS TO try to break even GOD down and separate it into compartments. Who can blame those who do this, though? We each respond to this tremendous force in our own way. We are living in the insane asylum of the Universe trying to comprehend pure divinity and Love. The more I comprehend the human race, the more I see what fragile, delicate creatures we are. Stumbling around with all of these personalities, egos, issues, guilt, fear just looking to be Loved and to have the Love within us recognized, embraced and responded to. We are so delicate....these psyches, these bodies, even our words. Love everyone, see everyone as children, when you meet a difficult person imagine them crying if you must and FEEL compassion toward them as Mother would to them. I find that if we do these things, it swings the scale the other way....and all of the fear, blame and imposition that tends to arise within the group will naturally fade away and become meaningless to us. If you are dancing in the hall and someone looks at you angrily, because they feel that you shouldn't....dance even harder and send that energy to them in the form of love. No doubt, Amma will catch your eyes then and laugh at you and the whole leela of it all! I speak from experience and from so often feeling I "might do something wrong" in the eyes of other and also in relation to the whole gay issue. I say all of this hoping that it may help someone else not get dragged into the whole mess of other peoples ideas of Amma. She speaks to us best through our hearts and through the hearts of those who are filled with her. In fact, it is through Silence that she speaks to us best. Narayana, Narayana JAI JAI MA! Guest guest
You are both very wise to follow your own heart and not let the "assistant gurus" tell you what to do. This is an old trick that is used around spiritual organizations, and is sometimes used to manipulate. There is a definite difference between the policies made by Mother, and the sensibilities of people who may just be annoyed at some behavior, such as dancing during Devi Bhava, massage, or whatever. While some spiritual organizations have very strict rules, even to the point of taping squares on the floor for people to sit in, Mother doesn't seem to be concerned with a lot of extraneous stuff. She works on us where it matters. She wants to take us into Her. Which reminds me of something kinda funny. A long time ago I was attending a yoga program (not one of Mother's) in LA and the woman sitting in front of me shook her fist at me and threatened to punch me in the nose if I didn't do what she wanted. People say and do all sorts of things. We're all nuts. Divine, but nuts. Guest guest
Hi Prasadini, I wanted to say thank you for the support you offered below regarding following my heart. I felt seen and appreciated as I read your comment, which helps strengthens my self-acceptance, and my sense of connection with others. That in turn helps me to be more able to see the child in everyone, including those who walk around expressing such disapproving judgments. Thanks also Ananthasree for the reminder about seeing the child in each person, which Amma certainly models. I'm looking forward to seeing Amma 6/26-27!
