When someone says that deep emotional issues first have to be dealt with by some modern psychological process before the mind can take to the chanting of the holy name, it's the same as saying that the chanting of Hare Krishna cannot help initially overcome psycholical problems, which is the same as saying that the devotional process is dependent on material circumstances. > > Psychology doesn't help "deep emotional issues." The only thing that can > > help anyone in Kali yuga is chanting Hare Krishna. harer nama harer nama > > harer nama eva kevalam...etc. I can't believe I have to say this to > > someone of your long standing, prabhu.... > > According to the rules of argument, Braja Sevaki, you should now be asked > the question, What would it take to change your mind? Care to say? What you seem to be saying is that modern psychology can help us become better devotees. What do you think Prabhupada would have to say to that? > Suppose someone argued that seeing a psychologist *had* helped in > overcoming a difficulty and enabled this devotee to go on with chanting > Hare Krishna. What will your reply be? I'd say you'd have to show me some evidence before I'd believe that. How can modern psychology help devotees who are aspiring to become pure and free from from false ego? Please tell me that? The only thing I have seen modern psychology do to anyone is to enhance and solidify their false egos. ys, jdd

Actually, I know several good devotees who have told me that. Now there are two ways to take that. One is that you could respons and say "Ok good, I am glad you are doing better in KC. The other is, "I don't believe you because only KC can help you." Your servant, Mahatma das

I would of course say "Ok good, I am glad you are doing better in KC" but inside I would have my doubts, because it is clearly stated in the sastra that only the Hare Krishna mantra can ward off the evils of Kali-yuga. I have firm faith in sastra, and also my personal experience over many years confirms it, both regarding myself and others. Personally I have never met anyone who became a better devotee by material means, quite to the contrary. ys, jdd
