srutisamstutavaibhavA : Whose glory is celebrated in the scriputes.

According to the Kosa [Amara 501], samstuta means experience, ie her

greatness is experienced by the scriptures. Or sruti, four, ie her

glory is experienced in four ways, the Person in the body, the Person

in the metres, the Person in the scriptures, and the great Person as

described in the Bahvrca. Up. She is in the four forms [vyUhas]. The

KUrma Pr. also :"Devi has four saktis; they declared to be her own

nature, and she is the support of these four; Listen to me, O best of

munis, these are sAnti [peace], vidyA [knowledge], pratisthA [fixity],

and nivrtti [restraint]. Hence the supreme Lord is said to be four-

formed. By these four saktis the supreme Lord enjoys his own bliss"

BhAskararAya's Commentary

1. She whose glory is praised by the Vedas.

2. She experiences Her glory as the four Saktis (i.e., sAntI, vidyA,

pratisthA, and nivrtti; the four forms of Mahesvari).

- Dr. C. Suryanarayana Murthy, Commentary on the Sri Lalita

Sahasranama, 1962
