TVM 10.8.2 The above pasuram is the anubhavam of Nammazhwar in thiruvaymozhi. Azhwar calls perumal as AarAvayitrAan, who ate all His creation at the time of pralayA. Though Perumal was big enough to eat all His creation, He was kind enough to get into Azhwar’s nenjam. Azhwar was smart enough to hold Him inside. Moolavar: AppakkudathAn, AppAla Rangan, AarAvayitrAn ThAyAr: Kamalavalli VimAnam: Indra vimAnam Pratyaksham: Upamanyu, ParAsarar AarAvyitrAn is in sayana thirukkOlam in TheruppErnagar. The DD has got a mention in Brahmanda puranam. This DD is also known as KOviladi (South of Srirangam). Phalasavanam is the other name. There was a king called Upamanyu, who performed AnnadhAnam for 1 lakh Andanars (Brahmins) towards some good cause. During that time, Perumal wanted to bless him. Hence, He took the form of an old Brahmin and participated in the annadhAnam. After having eaten everything that was prepared, Perumal asked if there was anymore left. This is one of the reasons why this Perumal is called as AarAavayitrAn. The king was astounded and rightly predicted that the Brahmin should be someone who was divine. He immediately, fell at the brahmin’s feet and told him that he could order for the preparation of anymore eatable that the Brahmin wanted. Perumal immediately blessed the king and ordered to the king to prepare some appam (a sweet) in the evening. Following this, He went into the room nearby, and took the sayanakkOlam. Since then, appam is offered to Perumal everyday in the evening. thirumaalirunchOlai malaimenREn ennathirumaalvandhu en nenchu niRaiyap pukundhaan kurumaa maNiyundhu punalponnith thenpaalthirumaalchenRu chErvidam then thiruppErE.
