Guest guest
>When we say that Aryabhatta or Copernicus discovered that the earth >moves around the sun, we are bringing forth the concept of Absolute >motion. >Pranams >Hersh > Hershji, PraNAms. while you are right from the absolute point, the rotation of the earth around the sun and not the other way around can be gathered from the relatively stationary (in the time and distance scales of earth and the sun) reference points of distant stars. One need not have to have an absolutely absolute but can get away with relatively absolute reference to arrive at the relative motions.. The percentage of errors that arise in this relatively abosolute scale are very small. It is like taking the earth as stationary for computing the relative motion of the trains or planes. In fact most of the relative motions are established only on that basis, since the only available the absolute reference can not be objectified for reference! Hence Mandukya emphasizes that all knowledge is only relative! But relative knowledge is valid knowledge within the frame of reference. Hari OM! Guest guest
Namaste, > However, we often see that suurya (SUN) is regarded as a planet > (Example - pa~ncaayatana puujaa). We now know that it is a star not > a planet and does not move relative to the Earth. I presume you mean that the sun is regarded as a graha. Is there any specific reason why graha should be translated here as a modern day "planet" of the solar system? Also, the sun does move relative to the earth. I understand your point regarding glorification of the movement of the sun. But we still say that the sun rises in the east even today.
