Guest guest
Sat Nam!!! I started doing kundalini yoga about a month ago.... and I suffer from allergies and chronic stuffy nose... can doing the breath of fire cause ear problems? Since I started doing the breath of fire my ears are clogged and now my doctor said I have fluid in my middle ears that is not draining... I wonder if because I have stuffy nose, while doing the breath of fire, the air went to my ears and caused all this trouble? The ear problems started right when I started practicing the breath of fire. Any advise or comments are greatly appreciated!!! Thanks Carla
Guest guest
Hi Carla, The fluid in your inner ears is probably a reaction from your allergies. It happened to me last year before I started doing KY, it took me a few thousand dollars and tons of meds to solve the problem then but a nice nurse finally took pity on me by showing me how to blow up balloons to force my eustachian tubes open and clear them so that the fluid can drain. Their swelling is a reaction of allergies, generally the same ones that cause allergic rhinitis. You can also make a face like a blowfish and let the air blow inward until your ears feel like you¹re on a plane and then swallow to clear them, that helps too. That funny method was free and didn¹t have side effects like drugs (other than to make you feel silly while blowing up balloons). Breath of fire will help, actually, to clear that out or at least it did for me. It just holds your nostrils open more to relieve congestion and you can take it right back off when you¹re finished. Also, I couldn¹t do breath of fire at first because my nose wouldn¹t stay clear enough (I couldn¹t get the air in) so I started using a breathe right strip beforehand so that I could get enough air to do breath of fire and it worked beautifully! I breathe so much better now. It¹s amazing how we take air for granted until the day when we can¹t get any. I¹ll let the other, wiser folks on the list say whether that could help others, but it definitely helped me!! When I started doing that is when I got my asthma under control AND with no meds. Hope that helps. Guest guest
Perhaps you should consider using ear candles--it is very possible that the constant effect of the allergies has created a build up of wax in your ears. Guest guest
Sat Nam Carla Another way to clear the eustachian tubes is to pinch your nostrils and blow into them to clear. It takes practice. It's called the valsava maneuver. Look it up online as there may well be illustrations that go with it. Lovingly Teresa
Guest guest
Sat Nam Carla: I mentioned the valsalva maneuver but one other thing may help and that is saline sinus and nasal washes. Ayr makes a preservative free wash. You can make normal saline yourself by boiling a quart of distilled water briefly then shutting of the heat and adding a level teaspoon of salt. You can snuff it up and purchase a dropper. You have to keep the dropper very clean. For me it is easier to purchase the nasal wash kit. Hope this helps. It supposedly helps to wash out the allergens that get into the nasal passages and inflame them thereby causing swelling. Do not add extra salt because you think more is better...this will cause an osmotic imbalance and make the problem worse.
