Does anyone has experiencences about practicing with scolyosis? Is it

possible to heal scolyosis by practicing the 1° series? I'm practicing

since 3 years. Sometimes i feel it's getting better because my back is

more straight, then suddenly i have the bad feeling my back is even

more twisted than before. For sure by practicing correctly muhla and

uddyiana bandha i have much more awareness of my back. Should i

continue? Am i on the right way? Will i have a straight spynal column

one day? Thanks for your help and experience about this, Max

yes i have. basically twists feel easier on one side compared to the other

and also the space between the ribs is larger on one side making intercostal

strains on that side easier. i strained my intercostals a couple of times

from doing deep backbends, always on the same side. however other than that

depending on the degree of scolyosis it shouldn't make that much difference.

just practising regularly with faith should transform your body as you

slowly progress through the series.

Hi Max,

I have scoliosis and have been practicing yoga for

five years, three of the past years just focusing on

ashtanga. My spine hasn’t gotten straighter but it

hasn’t deteriorated either. My doctor says my back

muscles are strong and that I should continue the yoga

to keep the core strong.

There is an article in Yoga Journal about this topic

titled “Yoga for Scoliosis”

http://www.yogajournal.com/practice/1060_1.cfm

Another website that helped answer my questions about

scoliosis is http://www.yogaforscoliosis.com/yoga.html

I hope this helps.

Marcia

I just also wanted to mention that there is a dvd-- I think it's

just called yoga for scoliosis, that might be helpful to you. My

sister has it as well, and I often worry about my young son who is a

dedicated viola player developing it-- but he does practice yoga so

hopefully that will keep everything in alignment. Best of luck to

you!
