Guest guest
Respected Members, There was a Raja Guru (Royal Adviser), who was very adept in Vedanta, particularly Advaita and he always lectured to the King about Satyam, Mithya, Brahman etc. The king could not appreciate when the Guru said everything including the world, Eswara, etc. are all Mithya, there is only Brahman or the Ultimate God or Reality, and that and one should concentrate on that, rather than wasting the life on material pleasures. One day, the king went on hunting and took the Guru also with the party. When they were deep in the forest, suddenly a huge tiger appeared and charged on them. The Guru was the first to run away. The party chased the tiger away, but the King noticed the way the Guru ran away from the scene. After a few days, at a leisurely time, the king asked the Guru, “You always say the world is Mithya, and everything we see is Mithya. If that be the case, why did you run away from the tiger? After all the tiger is also Mithya.” The Guru quietly replied “Your Highness, yes everything is Mithya. The tiger is Mithya and the one who ran away from the tiger is also Mithya.” Swamiji used to narrate this story when talking on Satyam and Mithya. Mithya has got its own place, a very important place while we “live” and are in vyvahara. Hari Om R. S. Mani Everyone is raving about the all-new Mail Beta. Guest guest
maniji : Thank you for sharing this story. May i also share a similar story . A guru told his sisya that the whole that the whole of manifestation is the immanence of God. On hearing this, the sisya was thrilled and was pretty comfortable conducting fearlesslesly the day to day affairs in the mundane world . One day, the sisya went to the marketplace along with his guru. Suddenly , a mad elephant came along that road and started running amuck in all its fury. The mahut on top of the raod kept yelling ' Run! run! clear the way ! ' but the sisya did not run . On the contrary, he stood there like he had nothing to fear. The sisya felt he had nothing to fear because the mad elephant is also a manifestation of God. The mad elephant charged at him and lifted him up and thrw the young sisya on the ground. The sisya was injured and bleeding from his hounds when the guru came to his rescue . The sisya asked his guru ' respected sir ! you said that all is the immanence of God?" and how come the mad elephant hurt me ?. Yes, that is true", replied the guru, "But didn't you hear the Mahut , also a manifestation of God, on the back of God, telling you to get off the road?" i leave you with this verse from Svetasvatara Upanishad IV-10: Know then that Nature is Maya, and that the great God is the Lord of Maya. The whole world is filled with beings who form His parts. Sarvam Vishumayam! Sri Vishnu's another name is Mayeshwera ( He is the lord of Maya) This whole world is also part of his Leela! enjoy! advaitin, "R.S.MANI" <r_s_mani wrote: > > Respected Members, > There was a Raja Guru (Royal Adviser), who was very adept in Vedanta, particularly Advaita and he always lectured to the King about Satyam, Mithya, Brahman etc. The king could not appreciate when the Guru said everything including the world, Eswara, etc. are all Mithya, there is only Brahman or the Ultimate God or Reality, and that and one should concentrate on that, rather than wasting the life on material pleasures.
