Guest guest
Sri Parthasarathi thunai Srimathe ramanujaya Namaha Sri Vara Vara munayE Namaha Sri vAnAchala mahA munayE Namaha Sri Azhagiya manavala perumal nAyanar in his magnum opus Acharya hrudhayam says, "dvayArththam deerga sharanAgathi endradhu sArasangrahaththilE" (AH-210) Sara sangraham is a masterly work of swamy pillai lokacharya (elder brother of swamy azhagiya manavala perumal nayanar) in which swamy shows how the ten divine meanings conveyed by the mantra ratnam, dvayam is clearly given by swamy nammazhvar in his ten cantos in thiruvaimozhi. Each canto in thiruvaimozhi is supposed to give out the meanings of dvayam (recorded to be ten by our poorvacharyas). The ten meanings conveyed are as follows: 1) Paratvam (Supremacy/omniscient) - First canto 2) kAranatvam (being the creator) - Second canto 3) vyApagatvam (omnipresent) - Third 4) niyantrutvam (mastelyness)=Fourth 5) kAruNigatvam (Mercifulness) - Fifth 6) sharanyatvam (act of providing refuge)-sixth 7) shakthimatvam (powerful) - Seventh 8) satyakAmatvam (omnipotent)- Eighth 9) Abhatsakathvam ( Capable to rescue in danger) -Nineth 10) Arthi harathvam (remove all obstacles) -tenth Dwayam also conveys ten meaning declares Sri Parasara bhattar in his ashtasloki. The outline meaning conveyed by dvayam is "undergoing total surrender unto the divine feet of Srimannarayanan who is always accompanied by piratti" This is exactly reiterated by Swamy nammazhvar in his "vulagamunda peruvAya" padhigam "agalagillEn eraiyumendru" paasuram (6-10-10), a canto dedicated to thiruvenkatamudaiyan, Srinivasan "agalagillEn eraiyum endru alarmEl mangai urai mArbA! nigaril pugazhAi! vulamoondrudaiyAi! Ennai AlvAnE! nigaril amarar munikkaNangal virumpum thiruvenkataththAnE! pugal ondrillA adiyEn vunnadikkeezh amarindhu pugundhEnE" alarmEl mangai - Sri:; agalagillEn - mat; vurai mArbA - nithya yOgam (Sri inseparable from perumal); nigaril pugazhAi ... thiruvEnkaththAnE - Narayana; pugal ondrillA adiyEn - sharanagathan filled with Akinchayam and ananyagadithvam; vunnadikkeezh - charanow; amarindhu pugundhEnE - sharanam; Thus the meaning of the first half of dvayam is clearly conveyed by swamy nammazhvar in this paasuram. Has he conveyed the meaning of the second half (attaining the purushArtham) also in thiruvaimozhi? Let us see in the next posting (To be continued) Azhvar emperumAnAr Jeeyer thiruvadigalE sharaNam Adiyen ramanuja dAsee Sumithra Varadarajan "LET US WORK IN UNITY AND BE PART OF THE ACHARYA KAINKARYAM AND GET CLOSE TO THE HEARTS OF THE DIVINE COUPLES"
