Are there any rules for the use of these words or are they largely

interchangeable? For instance, is either form of the following sentence

preferable?

 

On the roof terrace, which could seat about 250, was another chamber, where

Sril Bhaktisiddhänta Sarasvati stayed with his treasured collection of books

and manuscripts, that he frequently consulted for references to support

points he was speaking or writing on.
