Guest guest
Question from Bruce: If one is unable to perform a homa after doing mantra japa, due to the environment(living in an apartment/ or other laws) what can one do to compensate , and make it equal to doing a homa. Thank you for your time Swamiji's response: Homa is valued at 10% of japa. The formula for japa is generally one lakh (100,000 recitations) per syllable. At the fire we can perform 10%. If you do not have a fire, perform 100%. For example the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra, Jum Sah, has 2 syllables. It's complete recitation will require 200,000, or 1,852 malas. At the fire it would require 185 malas. The same will hold true for other mantras as well.
