Notes: 1. How does thavaneRi fit for cundharar who got married twice and gave the Lord the list of materials needed? thavam is neither seclusion nor living like a beggar. It is forbearance. Irrespective of what condition one is subjected to sticking to the principle one has is thavam. (c.f. the story of man at kAshi who sought ramba - shiva mahA purANam). The thavam cundharar did without any break in his life is fondling the Lord shiva in his mind and staying ever associated with that God. The greatest of all austerities! c.f. manaiyuL irun^thavar mAthavar oppar - thirumanthiram. 2. kan^tham - frangrance; punal - water; man^thi - female monkey.
