Guest guest
>From The Nectar of Eternal Bliss pg 87-88 "Mother, may I ask you a question? Seeing your actions I am astounded! That other man had given so much effort, had been performing disciplined worship for you for such a long time, but you didn't show compassion to him. And for me who doesn't know any thing, who doesn't listen, who doesn't worship, who has no discipline, who has no wisdom, who has no devotion, you are showering so much grace upon me!" Laughing the Divine Mother replied, "Child! You have no memory of your previous births in which you practiced severe austerities for Me. Because of that spiritual discipline, you received my darshan so quickly. Now tell me what boon you want?"

A couple of days ago I read your quote from the Great Master and was duly uplifted by it. It had a sparkle which I have come to associate with something that is particularly timely. Nevertheless, today, after a couple of days of a rather grueling workweek, I tried to recall your Sri Ramakrishna quote but couldn't remember which one it was. I think the lession in that is that scriptural quotes are eternal truths, no doubt, but, that, by themselves, they simply hang in Eternity until they are used or applied in some way, thus locking them into time--into the world that we know and live in. I'd bet a stick of bubble gum that if you had given a sentence or two of commentary--what it means to you in your personal life, or what it can mean to us in our personal lives, that I would have remembered it just fine. The "human interest angle" is not to be despised. We are the murtis, the living commentarys, through which the Timeless and Eternal can enter time and have an effect. When Sri Ramakrishna left Earth, He said (refering to how divine images are made in India for worship) "Now, I have made the mold, you have only to pour the gold". Shree Maa, although already eternally Gold, and needing nothing for Herself, has, Mother-like, shown the western world, and Her western children how to pour the gold. Even as the body needs food, water and air for its nourishment, so the soul grows evolves, and waxes luminous by means of the eternal scriptures, the spark from the Revered Guru's Feet, and-most importantly-our every dirict manifestation in our practical, day-to-day life of the Truth we are privileged to know. Karma is the ongoing reflection of the Eternal in the mirror of the relative. It is only here that we make karma, it is only here that we grow, it is only here that we build and burnish the ark of our own Soul which will carry us, when complete, from the relative to the Eternal.
