It's more likely to be in a Buddhist tradition than in a Hindu trad that one is concerned with "attachment." But I'm facing an enforced cleaning of all that I own, and I'm terrified.

I've lived alone in a three-room apartment for almost 25 years. Even when i was ambulatory, I was not a good housekeeper. Now that I'm crippled, things that fall to the floor tend to remain there. The Visiting Nurse Service, treating my wounded toe, wants to clean the apartment for me, on this coming Wednesday (July 26) -- it will entail basically picking up everything I own and throwing it all in a dumpster. I admit that I need more space, I need a more efficient use of my space, I need a clear pathway through the apartment... and I dread the inevitable loss of the majority of all that I own. Several fuctionaries have commented, "Who needs so many books?" Well, I DO!! I have drawers full of old papers. My apartment is cluttered to the max (I gather that the expression "Collier's mansion" has come to some people's minds) -- and I don't look forward to the experience.

Any recommended mantras or visualizations I can use to deal with the loss of so much of my stuff? Is this another Kali Ma experience? Be gentle with me, Ma!

Well, seems to me, you can either sort through it yourself or let

someone else trash it all for you. Your choice?

You still got time :)

Blessings!

I'm hoping to get the majority of my stuff that I want saved put away before the 26th. I DO need professional cleaning services -- scrubbing out the tub, vacuuming the floors, cleaning the stove -- which I can't do myself.

Where do you live, ZNanna, that you'll be visiting Noo Yawk? I'd take you up on your offer, but I'm going to teach a class in Maryland the weekend of August 3rd thru 6th.

I live upstate, in Columbia County. I lived in NYC for about 20

years before I moved here in 2000, and still come "downtown" a

couple of times a month, on business.

We probably crossed paths sometime back in the day (think red hair

and black leather, that would be me, haha).

Love,

Consider that your home is the outer temple and shrine of your holy objects

and that letting them remain in filthy settings is a disservice.

The cleaning up thats happening to you happens........I know a lady

who was excessively attached to her clothes and her wadrobe got

burnt!!!! and she was left with peanuts!also she developed a rash to

jewelry which never got cured till she transcended the gems!!! Maa

has her severe methods of teaching.......quite often they are like

slaps in the begining but later she drowns you with her love and all

this is worth it for that..........

Sickness and cleansing often goes side by side. Two sides of the

same coin. Best policy is to let it roll, accept it, bow to divine

will and watch Maa smile.
