Guest guest
Dear All, JAI MAA !!!! Thank you for sharing your enthusiasm on this text , Sadhu Maa and Linda. I look forward to your insights. Namaste Dolly and anyone that wants a copy of "The Guru and the Goddess", that contains the Kasyapa Sutras, the book is available in the bookstore at http://www.shreemaa.org/drupal/node/404 Querida Kalachandra said : The book says: "Diti gave birth to all of the other beings of physical creation" Is it the same thing? Are we children of Diti or Aditi? Querida, In the book, Swamiji says that we are all the children of Aditi, ie we are all divine beings. Chetanji - Thank you for sharing the stories on Kasyapa Muni. I was intrigued by the line "Any one who does not know his ‘gotra’ usually takes ‘Kashyapa’ as his gotra since he (Kashyapa Muni) is father of all, good and bad." I searched on the web, and found that Kasyapa had many wives in addition to Aditi and Diti, and with them he populated the various species. >From the web , here is the scoop on a few more wives of Kasyapa..... ============================ Danu, Kashyap's third wife had a hundred sons known as Danavas. Tamra had six daughters who began the lines of various animals and birds. Vinata was the progenitor of bird deities among whom were Garuda the vehicle of Vishnu and Jatayu, who played a crucial role in the Ramayana. Surabhi was the mother of cows and buffaloes, Surasa and Kadru of snakes and Ira of trees. Muni is said to be the mother of the Apsaras or divine maidens whereas Arishta mothered the Gangharvas who were the custodians of music and dancing. Krodhavasha was the mother of another set of demons called the Rakshasas while Vishva was the mother of the Yakshas, a clan of the demi-Gods. ============================= Here is the answer to the question that I had posed earlier - The Names of the SaptaRishis . The Wikipedia article has different names depending on the origin of the text. I will also check with Swamiji and get back to you. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saptarishi Jai Maa Nanda
Guest guest
OM NAMAH SIVAYA i don't know much about the scriptures so i am just mostly a silent observer in all this, but i found the below about Diti at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diti Seeing Diti's cowives being blessed with children;Diti too was eager to have a son. So,she had asked Kashyapa for company.Though Kashyapa had acceded to her request,He had asked her to wait for an hour as it was then the time when Shiva and his retinue of ghosts and spirits moved about;which was considered inauspicious and unsuited. However;Diti;shaken by the passion of love and lust, couldn't wait and she seized kashyapa by his garments, which was a sign of immodesty. Since Diti's mind was impure;tainted by lust, she would give birth to two unworthy sons who would violate all the ethics (Dharma) and follow the path of Adharma. When Diti felt sorry, Kashyapa consoled her by saying that they would be slained by Lord Vishnu himself and thus be blessed by the Lord's contact in the end. Also; one of her four grandsons'by her first son, would be a great devotee of Vishnu and also the noblest man(He is Prahlada.). In this way, Jaya and Vijaya were born in this earth to Diti as Hiranyakashipu and Hiranyaksha. so maybe we are really all from one of those "non-traditional" families. we have two mothers(really only One but you know what i mean) 1. Aditi - our Divine Mother, Mother of our True Nature. and 2. Diti - our Earthly Mother, who is here like us because we still have a few asuric qualities to work out. JAI MAA ps. i am not sure that i agree with Wikipedia that when Siva and the boys are on the move it is inauspicious or unsuited. but i guess it makes for a better story. Cowives? what did Kashyapa live in Utah. , Nanda <chandimaakijai wrote: > > Dear All, > JAI MAA !!!! > > Thank you for sharing your enthusiasm on this text , Sadhu Maa and Linda.
