Guest guest
doSha parihAraShTakam – series –7 Verse – 7 padmAdisaurabha iva bhramarasya harSham. hitvAnyadIya suguNe punaranyadoShe. harSho durartha iva gehakiTeh kimAste. hA me kadesha kR^ipayA vigaletsa eShah.. I should be revelling in the guNa's of others, not in their doSha. I should enjoy talking about their goodness/achievements of others. The author gives two comparisons here: First comparison, like bramarasya harSham– just like a bee, which goes from flower to flower, enjoys collecting honey. The bee is never found to be sitting on any dirty object. It avoids dirty objects and it goes to only flowers. anyadIya suguNeShu harSham Similarly with whomever I am contacting with, at any point of time, I must gather only honey from him/her. But human thinking is to say `There is no honey in him/her at all!'. Hitva - I need to probe in every person to see the goodness alone. Second second, gehakiteh iva – like a make pig. The author is sounding very harsh here. If I am revelling in others doSha's, with whom am I being compared? I am being compared to a pig revelling in the dirt. Not only the pig chooses to go to the dirtiest place but also enjoys being in it. May be the author is using the word, gehakiteh - a male-pig; because he does not want get into trouble by mentioning the female pig also. Moreover, from the first verse he is addressing himself. Swamiji has cited a comparison from elsewhere: Like a fly sitting on the wound of others. The person suffers from the wound, but the fly enjoys sitting on the wound. In spite of repeatedly swatting the fly away, it returns again and again to the wound. Similarly the other people's wounds are their defects. My job is, to treat /cure the wound if possible, but instead I enjoy revelling in that wound. DurarThah anya doShe harSham – it is an evil to revel in other people's defects. Hame kadA Isha! Oh lord kR^ipayA vigaletsa eShah- by your grace let me drop/change this wrong attitude of talking ill of others. Guest guest
Thank you sri Lakshmiji ! The 'bee 'is a favorite metaphor in hindu scriptures. in fact , in the Srimad Bhagvatam, SRI DATTATREYA lists the 'bee' as one of his 24 upagurus. YES! An intelligent man should from the smallest as well as the biggest religious scriptures take the essence, just like a honey bee does with all the flowers big and small ! In fact, there is a verse in srimad bhagvatam whiich goes like this yuktiyuktham vacho grahayam baladapi shukadapi yuktihinam vachatyajyam vriddadapi sukadhapi ( please correct my transliteration) " that which is consistent with rational thinking ought to be accepted whether proceeding from a boy or even from a parrot! ( sukha refers to sage as well as parrot) that which is inconsistent with right thinking ought to be rejected , even though emanating from an old man or from the great SUKADEVAJI HIMSELF." thank you Lakshmiji for the Bee metaphor ! On another note , the 'pig' metaphor is also apprropriate ! Hve you seen in india , how many pigs are near Garbage dumps ? LAKSHMIJI, but in the u.s.a , the pigs have been trained to be clean animals ! Surprising, is it not ? Yes ! even human beings can be trained to ovelokk the 'doshas' in others and dwell only on the 'positives' best wishes
Guest guest
Sarasvatiji namaste, Piggery pigs are different fromt he pigs that move about in gropus in India. One will still find them in villages only. Surprisingly, this is my observation, I have found pigs near big temples adn also where Samadhi of a great saint is situated. I am naarating an experience of mine. We wre four of us very deeply inteersted in visiting all the birth places of the great Alwars and their Samadhis. In the process we went on adventerous spree in Mahabalipuram in the most dirtiest place of the town where the Samadhi of BhoodhattAlwar is situated. We couldnot identify, but my son spotted a few Varahas - pigs,( we dont call them as pigs but varahas a better sounding name), he said 'check out the samadhi must be some where here' He was right it was. Varahas moved around in places where powerful astrologers live. This is another belief. Varahamihira - the great astrologer. Even Varaha is brhaman. Lord narayana took the form of Yajna Varaha mUrti- who saved the earth. He is Yajna and his form is Yajna. There is a stuti in praise of Adi Varaha. The different parts of the body of the Adi varaha is described, that matches with all that is mentioned in Poorva MImamasa. Bhagavatam - Skanda 3 chapter 13. om namo narayanaya Lakshmi Muthuswamy Everyone is raving about the all-new Mail Beta.
