Guest guest
Thanks for all the info Richard, I was planning to be there on Decemeber 3rd and did contact Ramanasram but they no accomodation was available. But I do plan to be there on Dec 25th - but still have to work on getting a long vacation from work and budget. One more Q - is it easy to get a place in any nearby guest house or does one have to make advance reservation. Are the nearby asarams in Tiruvanamali and is it walking distance to Ramanasram. Has any one heard of aham.com. It seems, from their website aham.com, they have a retreat center in Tiruvanamalai. Nice to know Richard - you are able to make it every year. Do you plan to move there permanently? Monk at Skandasram: What time is the singing in the morning? thanks again for the info, nn, Richard Clarke <rclarke (AT) svcrm (DOT) com> wrote: Dear Nisheet, When I was in Bangalore two years ago, I went to Ramanasramam with a group. We first stayed at Ramana Centre for Learning in Bangalore, then hired three cars for the group. The drive took about 5 hours, maybe six. Most of the group stayed at Ramanasramam. These are nice facilities, you need to make arrangements with Ramanasramam before you arrive. I think you can do this via email. Go to the Ramanasramam site. Last year I did not stay in Ramanasramam. My wife and I stayed at a nearby guest house. There are many of them. We stayed at Darmha Daya Guest House. This year I stayed with an India friend I had met last year. I was interested in seeing a bit of what life in Tiruvanamalai was like, since we are thinking of moving there. What I liked very best was getting up at 5 AM and going to the roof top and sitting with Arunachala until day break. Another thing I enjoyed deeply was walking up to Skandasram right after breakfast, and listening to the monk sing and chat when when he first opens it up in the morning. He has a wonderful voice, and the inner chamber is so resonant, and the love he has in his heart shows in his voice. One can listen and just sink into the inquiry. And walking Pradakshina on the inner path. Have a wonderful trip! When will you be going? Can you please tell how to go from Bangalore and any advise on accomodation in/around asram for around 10 days. Guest guest
Dear Nisheet, I think it is likely that you can find a room at a guest house when you arrive. We did. I felt that we were in Ramana's hands so all would turn out alright. And it did. When we got there we told an auto taxi driver to take us to guest house to find a room. We had to try three places before we found a room. The only place that I know the name is Dharma Daya, perhaps you can call them. I do not know an email address for them. Perhaps others in this group might know. Skandanasramam opens at about 8 AM. The attendent takes breakfast at Ramanasramam, then walks up the hill. We do plan on moving to Tiruvanammalai. Right now we are caring for my wife's elderly mother. Dues to her condition we will not be able to make the trip again while she is with us. When this period is over, then will be the time to move to India. The hardest part of leaving is leaving my teqacher, Nome. I did feel real peace with Arunachala, though, and feel this peace will keep drawing me towards the Self. Again, I have to feel that we are in Ramana's hands, so all will be just right. True, very hard to get any accomodations. nn, Richard Clarke <rclarke (AT) svcrm (DOT) com> wrote: Nisheet, When is Deepam?
