Guest guest
74. It is that in the last of one's births that one devotes oneself to Srividya, 75. And just so, the recitation of this Sahasranama is taken up by those whose present birth is their last. 75/76. There are only a few who know the methods of Sri Chakra worship and, just so, there are only a few who chant this Sahasranama. 76/77. The practice of Srividya, the worship of Sri Chakra, and the recitation of this holy Sahasranama are not attainable by the poorly devoted. 77/78. One who wishes to please the great Goddess [isvari] without chanting this Sahasranama is like one who is confused and tries to view objects by shutting her/his eyes. 78/79. One who aims to attain siddhis [occult powers] by means other than this Sahasranama is like one who aims to satisfy hunger by means other than food. 79. The devotee of Lalita should always recite this Sahasranama; in no other way will Devi be as pleased, even if one spends crores [tens of millions] of years trying. 80. Thereone, one should chant this Secret Shasranama of the Holy Mother with devotion. 81. And thus, O Kumbha Sambhava, is this secret hymn declared to you; and you should not impart it to one who is not initiated into Srividya nor to one who is not a devotee of the Devi. 82. Just as Srividya is kept secret, so too, O Muni, should this Sahasranama be kept concealed from the eys of the uninitiated; such a holy hymn as this ought not to be promulgated among those whose nature resembles that of beasts. 83. If one is witless enough to impart this Sahasranama to those not initiated into Srividya, the Yoginis will curse the one who imparted it, and it will be a source of great loss to her/him. 84. Therefore should this Sahasranama be kept concealed; I did not even declare it to you, O Kumbha-Sambhava, of my own accord! 85. It is by the command of Lalita Herself that this holy hymn in declared unto thee; therefore, O Kumbha-Sambhava, always chant it with devotion. 86. Thus pleased, the Great Devi will grant all that you desire. Soota said: 86/87. Having thus instructed Agastya, Hayagriva undertook to meditate on Mother Lalita, and was himself merged into Her Bliss. And his hair stood on end. (Thus ends the Third Phala chapter in the Uttarakhanda of the Brahmanda-Purana, which takes place in the form of a dialogue between Hayagriva and Agastya.)
