Yes, women can style their hair anyway they want.

I had a great sikha once, three bonafide dreadlocks sprouting off the top of my head, went over great at the reggaefests in BC, and even got me on stage, chanting with a thousand or so trinidadi maniacs.

Seriously, though, I dont see where this matters. Maybe there is an injunction somewhere, but I dont know (nor care for that matter). I am not the sikha.

Reminds me of a funny story involving my siksa teacher of old (no, not him, guest). One of the brahmacaris got caught admiring his two foot long braided sikha, and our TP snipped it our from under him. So much for vanity, chalk one up for King Solomon.

Women can wear kaupins too as far as that goes.

The questions is whether or not it will make them more Krishna conscious?

If wearing a sikha is just some cheap publicity stunt to get attention, then it is nothing but an offense to the whole Vaishnava community.

The real question would be whether or not this woman's guru instructed her to wear a sikha of if it is just some wild hair she has got bothering her.

Does she have a guru?

Did he instruct her to do this?

Everything hinges on the will of the BONA FIDE guru's instructions.

My guess is that it is just a stunt to get attention.

We all want attention.

It is part of the false ego system.

In "my glorious master" a memory book of Srila Prabhupada

it says that Prabhupada was very upset with devotees

who had sikhas that deviated from 1/2" wide and 6" long.

It says that Prabhupada chastised the person who

inspired this deviation rather heavily, "Don't you know I have

given you the best?!!!"

when the person -- an initiated devotee and a Swami -- argued with Prabhupada that it doesn't matter how devotees present themselves externally.
