Dear Beloved Family,

A very sweet friend told me this story a couple of

days ago -- She actually saw it on TV!!!! :-)

In a little village near Kanpur in North India is a

temple with a Goddess Lakshmi statue. Usually, in

temples Goddesses are adorned with lots of jewellery

and so someone associated with the temple thought they

would get a lot of money by stealing the Goddess!!!

They stole Mother Lakshmi but as luck would have it,

the police found the theives and took the Goddess to

the police station. I believe the police station was

in Kanpur - which is a town in North India!

Now, just imagine - a grim police station with police

men in khakhi uniforms (dark green) and little dark

green hats and sticks - and Mother's statue in their

midst!!! :-)

Now, an owl which the carrier of Lakshmi, decided to

pay respect to Divine Mother. My friend said that it

was a small, young owl and it came flying into the

police station and perched at the Feet of the statue!

People heard about this and they too wanted to join in

the worship - and pay their respect! They brought

fruit and flowers to offer to Mother Lakshmi. The

police men started taking the offerings - and became

the pujaris (priests)!

The police station became a temple. :-)

Meanwhile the people in the village are waiting for

Mother Lakshmi to come back soon.....maybe Her carrier

will take Her there! :-)

Jai MAA!

Does anybody know the story of why the owl is Mother

Lakshmi's vaahan (carrier)? If you know, please share

your knowledge! Thank you!

Jai MAA!
