Bomb explodes in temple complex, kills five

IMPHAL (ICNS) –- Five people were killed and some 30 injured when a powerful

bomb exploded here in a temple complex, which was filled with devotees

celebrating Janmasthami this evening.

The bomb exploded inside the temple of International Society for Krishna

Consciousness (ISKCON) when people filled it to offer prayers and celebrate

the birth of god Krishna.

Police say a militant group fighting for a separate homeland in the state

could be behind the attack, but they added no group had claimed

responsibility.

At least a dozen guerrilla groups have been fighting Indian forces in

Manipur for more than three decades.

Police sources say the toll may go up in the explosion as some of the

injured are in a critical condition.

The five victims included a 10-year-old boy and a 70-year-old woman.
