Guest guest
> Will varnasrama naturally fall into place as we expand or do we have to > give it shape? my experience is that nothing naturally falls into place in this world, rather it naturally goes to decay, so it has to be given shape. There has to be an educational and training program that facilitates the growth and development of anything, and along with that there has to be a lot of love and trust to nurture ourselves to grow and mature. Prabhupada's program was all about giving us the knowledge and then training us how to apply it in our lives and the lives of others. We have yet to establish very seriously the program of intellectually understanding the knowledge and then personally living it. Thus our results have been far from glorious. SB 5.1.19 Purport: To maintain proper social order and help the citizens gradually progress toward the goal of life—namely spiritual understanding—the principles of varnasrama-dharma must be accepted. From this verse, Maharaja Priyavrata appears to have been so strict in maintaining this institution of varnasrama-dharma that anyone neglecting it would immediately flee from his presence as soon as the King warned him by fighting or administering light punishment. Indeed, Maharaja Priyavrata would not have to fight, for simply because of his strong determination, they dared not disobey the rules and regulations of varnasrama-dharma. It is said that unless human society is regulated by varnasrama-dharma, it is no better than a bestial society of cats and dogs. Maharaja Priyavrata, therefore, strictly maintained varnasrama-dharma by his extraordinary, unparalleled prowess. Prabhupada is really giving us alot of deep insight throughout his books about the importance of Varnasrama and it's inherent relationship with the Krsna consciousness movement. To compile all the references from Vedabase is the first and easiest work to do. It really does not take long. Last winter I compiled everything Prabhupada said in the Bhagavatam, CC and the books that he actually wrote on the Krsna consciousness movement. The result was over 400 pages, and it took only 3 months. I see there are two more studies to do in order to have the initial documents to start the serious studying and compiling by a group of serious and mature devotees. Those are a complete study on varnasrama (the biggest one to do, I estimate 1000 to 1500 pages) and then the three modes of material nature and the illusionary energy. We should also gather all of the papers written by devotees regarding Varnasrama, to see how their insights are in line with or differ from our philosophy. your servant Visnu Murti das
