When I was researching to develop the masterplan for Mayapur, I did a lot of study on the social aspects of a town plan, how to create a built form that fosters good community. That lead me to research the varnasrama system. I was surprised by how much Srila Prabhupada has given us. I think all we need is in his books. What is missing is an understanding that varnasrama is necesary. I am impressed with the Amish, how their leaders are ready to discuss potential social changes for years before accepting anything that will affect the consciousness of the community. We need leaders who are prepared to take the time to really get into all this. You cannot even start to think about implementing varnasrama unless you are prepared to spend months or years understanding what it entails. You cant do that in a two day meeting. The leadership needs to put serious time into this, or empower others to do so. Otherwise we will just carry on losing people to the lower modes.
