Varnasrama´s purpose

Hare Krishna prabhus!

 

Varnasrama is a social organization like there are others in this world, but

with the end of visnu aradhyate, satisfy Sri Krishna. The communist

philosophy is based in two class, or division, the martial class and the

laborer class, when S. Prabhupada heard this he said: "why two class only,

why no the four" In others part of the world the society is divide according

with capitalism, etc. But there is a common denominater in human society

either communism, capitalism, varnasrama or whichever... that is, any kind

of society have to fulfill the basic necessities of the human being,

ähära-nidra-bhaya-maithunam. When this fail there is Revolution, French

revolution, russian revolution or glup from our Society.

 

Either Mr. Stephen Covey or HDG Srila Bhaktivinode Thakura, recognize these

needs of human being, whether for a karmi or for a sadaka.

 

Mr. S.R.Covey say:

 

"Certain things result fundamental for human realization. If we don't

satisfy these basic needs, we will feel empty, incompletei

Either we are conscious of these necessities or not, in our heart we know

that they exist. Besides, they are important. We can validate it through the

experiences of other persons. We can validate it by knowing the experience

of all the human beings that are extended all over the world and through all

the ages. The "sapience literature" has recognized these necessities

throughout history as vital areas of the human realization.

The essence of these necessities is synthesized in the phrase "To live, to

love, to learn, and to leave a legacy." To live is our physical necessity,

regarding the food, clothes, housing, economic welfare and health. To love

is our social necessity regarding the relations with others, belonging,

loving and being loved. To learn is our mental necessity for development and

growing. Finally, the need for leaving a legacy ranks with the spiritual

necessity to have a sense of meaning, the purpose, the personal congruency

and contribution.

 

HDG Srila Bhaktivinode Thakura say:

 

sadhana-kale ye paryanta / hrdaya kama ache

se paryanta varnasramadi / dharmera apeksa thake

 

TRANSLATION

At the time of practicing sadhana-bhakti, as long as there is material

desire within the heart, one should remain within the confines of the

varnasrama system.

 

"...As we have said, the main reason for the cultivation of varnasrama is

that maintaining the body in good health, improving the faculty of the mind,

promoting social well-being, and learning the science of the Self are all

conducive to the practice of pure devotional service.

Who can deny the necessity of the varnasrama institution as long as the

living being is bound up in the human body? If it is abandoned, and the

above-mentioned four principles are lacking, the jiva will go astray and no

good whatsoever will accrue to him."

 

So now, we can examine the way that the modern society for sense

gratification, specially last 50 years, is trying to satisfy the needs of

its followers:

 

Physical needs: It´s based in technology and industrialization. Petroleum

dependence. Paper currency like economical base...

 

Social needs: Big cities. Modern amenities like television, cars, airplan,

computers. Propaganda that teach one is completelly independent. Propaganda

of hedonism, atheism...

 

Mental needs: They have good school for professional formation, but they

fail in: Money as goal of any effort. Lack of the spiritual sense of the

work. End of the work is money, end of money is sense enjoyment. Many times

they work for remuneration nor for own inclination...

 

Spiritual needs: There are a few bonafide religion process, however the

problem is that normally they don´t follow their commandments. Materialist

propaganda that everything come from a big-bang, or the atom; finally there

is not a Creator, God don´t exist. To have a good Bank account is the end of

life...

 

These way of satisfy the necessities of the people is not natural and

therefore the people are suffering a lot and many, many people are already

completelly upset and searching for a another model of society and that

don´t finish with the limited resources of the planet.

 

Our work now is to research which are the principles, (according to Srila

Prabhupada and vedic scriptures) so the devotees and people in general

satisfy their basic necesities of life in our Society, or varnasrama for

Krishna Consciousness.

 

One thing we are 100% sure, it´s how to satisfy our spiritual necessity,

around the temple worship of Radha-krishna deities, chanting the holy name

and reading Prabhupada´s books. But our challenge is to know how to satisfy

the others three basic necessities of human life. As soon as we know that we

can start to implant varnasrama-dharma practically in any ISKCON farm around

the world.
