Translation:

Just as the King Bali, the great leader of duality, the king of all

manifested existence, was bound by truth, just so do I bind you to

protect me through all the movements of life.

 

Commentary

King Bali was so bound by truth that when Lord Vishnu came to him

disguised as a Brahmin dwarf, Vamana Avatar, even though knowing that he

was being deceived, he fulfilled his promise to God and gave Him three steps

of land. With His first step Lord Vishnu covered the entire earth and said, "The

entire earth belongs to me." With His second step He placed his foot in the

heavens and said, "All the heavens belong to me." Then He asked the king,

"Where shall I put my third step?" The king responded, "Please place your foot

on my head."
