Guest guest
Srigurubhyo NamaH Namaste, For a long time i was under the impression that the Haridaasa-saahitya, was confined to songs on Lord Hari and His Avataars. Recently, to my great surprise, i found some very enchanting songs on Lord Shiva by these Bhakta-poets. Of course one song: ChandrachUda ...was made popular some decades ago by Smt.M.L.Vasanthakumari. But for that lone exception, the other Shiva songs by these poets were not popularised. In the following link several of such songs can be heard. Even those who do not know Kannada can enjoy the Bhakti in the songs: http://www.udbhava.com/udbhava/songs.jsp?id=242 Pranams subbu Om Tat Sat

Yes, your observation about HaridAsas is correct. They are great bhakti poets (predominently in Kannada language). They all belongs to Maadhva sampradAya. Often their HaridAsa literature is compared as Kannada equivalent of VyAsa literature. In these literature, TatvavAda or Dvaita philosophy was conveyed in simple Kannada so as to laymen would understand. These are meant for sAdhana especialy for those who do not have vEdhAdhikAra. As for as keerthans on rudra, in dvaita siddhAnta Maha rudra occupys a very important role. He is manO-tatvAbhimAni dEvata (one who presides over manas and instigates it in correct or wrong way depending on jIva yogyatha), and a typical orthodox mAdhvaite always prays to Maha-rudra for grant of Eka-manas and bhakti on Lord Hari. There are numeras songs on Maha-rudra especialy by Sri Purandara dAsa. If you find a chance listen to beautiful song 'kanDe karuNA nidhiya...' on Lord Pamapa-pati (Deity of Vijayanagara Hampi). Hampi was Sri Purandara dAsa's place when he was learning under Guru Sri Vyasa Tirtha (nyAyAmrita fame). Regards, Srinivas Kotekal
