Raghupathi Bhatta speaks to SOM When Star of Mysore met him personally at his studio, Raghupathi Bhatta spoke about his views. Star of Mysore (SOM): What is World Peace Conference? Raghupathi Bhatta (RB): The world is under the threat of terrorism, under the cloud of the war of religions. This is the result of ungratefullness. We have received everything from nature but we are ungrateful to it. This could be the beginning of the end of the world. SOM: Can you explain the concept of nature-worship? RB: Since ancient times nature-worship has been the basic concept of religion in India. Sun, who gave light and earth, who bore our weight were worshipped as father and mother respectively. This is the basis of true religion. That is why the pictures depicting vedic practices of 2000 years ago will be displayed at the conference. SOM: When modern concepts are overwhelming at present, why are you being attracted by ancient concepts? RB: When nature-worship was prevalent in ancient India, America of the Red Indians, Japan, Africa, Zimbabwe and Australia, peace prevailed in the world and there was abundance. But now everything has changed, leading to chaos and confusion. Accepting ancient values is the only remedy for this. SOM: What is the purpose behind this art exhibition? RB: It is to spread India's message of peace to the world and thereby attempting to end enmity between religions. SOM: You are said to be using natural colours for your works, why? RB: Yes, the land of India is such that everything in it has a flavour. That is why my works are adorned with sandal, leaves and other natural products. SOM: What is the theme of your works? RB: They are based on my imagination of peace in the form of Devi (Jaganmathe) and the inspiration behind this is Sri Sugunendratheertha Swamiji of Putthige Mutt. SOM: What is your future agenda? RB: To revive the 'Kaavi art' of Dakshina Kannada, which is on the verge of extinction. http://www.starofmysore.com/main.asp?type=news&item=10491
