He mentions that one who relieved Lord Paramasiva of his distress is accessible at Thiruvananthapuram. Why should Nammazhwar refer to Lord in Thiruvananthapuram as the one who wiped off the stress of Lord Paramasiva? The learned commentators of Thiruvaimozhi refer to Lord Narayana giving alms to Lord Paramasiva who was roaming around with the skull of fifth head of Brahma in his arm and collecting alms in it because of the curse on him for his beheading the head of Brahma. Lord Narayana at Badhrikashram offered the sweat on his chest as alms to Lord Paramasiva. The skull, till then sticking to the hands of Paramasiva was shattered to pieces. Lord Paramasiva was relived of the curse of Brahma which made him run around with the skull in his hands. As if to give a visual presentation of Lord Narayana wiping of the misery of Lord Paramasiva, the Lord at Thiruvanthanapuram resting on the Adisesha is seen to touch a lingam by his hand. It is like Lord Narayana consoling Lord Paramasiva depicted by the Lingam. It is also seen in the epics that when Brahma lost the Vedas, Lord Narayana incarnated as Hayagreeva to rescue them from Madhu and Kaitaba who had robbed Brahma of the Vedas. The Lord at Thiruvananthapuram is called Padmanabha. Padma means, as explained in the previous anecdote "Lotus" and "nabi" means navel. One who has got a lotus on his navel is called Padmanabha. This was the Padma, the lotus from which emerged Lord Brahma. Brahma, the creating deity emerging out of the lotus creates Lord Paramasiva, who annihilates everything completing the cycle. The Thaitareeya Samhita says that in the navel of the birthless (Narayana), a unique substance is stationed. The substance is nothing but the lotus the litmus. It is unique because it functions as a Judge! This explains the concept behind Lord Padmanabha's beautiful form in Thiruvananthapuram. Those who understand this and chant his name, Padmanabha meditating upon the Lord giving darshan in Thiruvananthapuram, will get progenies that will bring greatness to their lineage. That is why Veda Vyasa named Padmanabha as the 48th name succeeding the name Hrishikesha. One will be able to appreciate why Lord Narayana took the form of Mohini a second time exclusively for Lord Siva and relived him of the stress created on him by Cupid. That leads to understand that Lord Padmanabha is the one protecting all. Not only this, the duty of creation is assigned to Brahma and annihilation is with Siva. Brahma's statement confirming this is recorded by Valmiki in Ramayana. "The duty of creation is entrusted by you to me, whom you bought out of the Lotus that emerged from your navel". Veda Vyasa says, "Brahma and Siva carry out the duty of Srishti and Samhaara respectively under the guidance of Lord Narayana (the Padmanabha). That is, Padmanabha is the bestower of powers to the other two deities. That is why, He is called Lord of the Gods, "Amaraprabhu", and in Vedavyasa's compilation of thousand names, the name `Amaraprabu' follows the name, `Padmanabha'. Lets us pray to Amaraprabhu, meditating upon the Lord in Thiruvananthapuram on the banks of the Arabian Sea giving darshan to devotees even to this day. Let us chant "Amara Prabhave Namaha". This is a fine Mantra. This mantra is so powerful that it will give "big postings" in ones career. "Om Amara Prabhave Namaha" Source: VAK,Dec 04.
