Number of Shaligram

Hari Hara Om

Would like to pose another question to this esteemed group.

Was reading a article the other day on the Shaligram Tirtha

Pradarshini Website.

It said that 1 was an auspicious number of shaligrama to worship.

It was inauspicious to have 2 or 3.

That after having one, a person should worship an even number of

shilas starting with 4..

Just didn't make sense to me.

How can finding ANY number of shaligram shila in one's life can that

be inauspicious ??

Would like to know others' opinions..

Many Thanks and Maha Pranamas.

Hari Om! Hari Om Tat Sat!

Dear Shri Ariel Krishna! please accept my respectful pranams! namaste!

Yes what you read in Sri Jaya Tirtha Charan Dasan's web site is very true. It is as per Shaligrama Gosha and per Vaishnavas. It is like the legs of a chair, either 1 in the bindu or another 3 to support all corners. This numbering applies to Sri Sri Sri Narmadeshwar Shiva Lingams as well. This applies to Sri Surya Narayana Shaligramas also.

My-self initially started wondering why all this number game but then Sri Jaya Tirtha Swamy awakened my-self which started with four, now it is around 150 and 12 Sri Parameshwar Shiva Lingams.

Finally HE teaches "ONE TO MANY....MANY TO ONE....TO THE BINDU" This what my-self awakend through Sri Krishna Bindu from Australia.

Do not worry Sri Krishna, proceed do not ask why to HIM? it is better to listen than ponder for no one understands WHY HE does these?

Hari, Hreeem, Hara!

Subham Dianam Astu!

Sarvam Sri Krishna Arpanam Astu!

We have all heard about rules in this regard. My question is why

worship MORE than one Shalagram? Ekameva dvitya nasti. ONE is the

really perfect number of Shalagram Shila.

Best wishes,

Richard

With all due respect to what you are saying, only one is fine for some, and for some, they would like to worship many salagrams, as there are many manifestations of Lord Krishna. Nevertheless, if some have this practice, we must not cast aspersions, as everyone has differing moods sentiments etc, associated with various pastimes, tadiyas, etc., of the Lord.

Respectfully, we cannot say "only one is good for all". What is good for some, is not good for others. This desire to worship many salagrams is a manifestation of the jiva's naturally greedy desire to attain bhakti, render service to, and return to the constitutional position of being eternal servitor of Lord Sri Krishna. Thus, this practice should be understood.

Richard,

I have a question. A few years ago I helped a devotee from the gaudiya vaishnava faith obtain some Shalagram Shilas from Nepal. You could say I was responsible that he got them. Some time ago when I spoke with him and asked how his worship is going, I got some indications that signalled to me he is worshipping them anymore or taking care of them nicely. I want to know if there is any negative karma involved on my part with this and if I should take steps to try and correct the situation?

Thanks for any help,

Ole

Dear Ole,

Yes, there is a connection. Please find out how the devotee is

worshipping, and ask him if he wants to return to you for someone else

to take care. This is proactive advice.

Dear Sriman,

Namaste!!! Of course there is nothing wrong with worshipping any

number of Shalagrams. To worship one Shalagram is to worship ALL

Shalagrams, because Deity is same, and He is ONE. Not that we have

worshipped God in one shalagram, but He remains unworshipped in

another. If you worship 10 Shalagrams then you have worshipped 10

times the same Deity, Sri Hari.

For the sake of distinction we can say a person who worships ONE

Shalagram is a pujari, and one who worships MANY Shalagrams is a

"Pujari-Collector". Because many Shalagrams is collecting. And there

is nothing wrong with that. What could be better collected???

Best wishes,

Richard

Dear All,

One of my clients who is a billionaire likes to collect sacred

objects, and when he read about Shalagram he asked me for one. I told

him Shalagram is not like other items, it cannot be worn as talisman

or kept as keepsake... FIRST you must be Vegetarian, and then do DAILY

puja, non-stop. That was enough to discourage him.

Best wishes,

Richard

Dear Rasul,

You'll get some basic info about Parada Shiva Lingam from my site at >

http://www.astrojyoti.com/paradshivalinga.htm and also a better picture. The

price depends on the quality & % of mercury.
