Guest guest
Dear Shaiva, Smaarta Friends, AUM Nama: Shivaaya. All of you are Shiva_Bhaktaa's are experts in the Knowledge of & about Lord Shiva. However, as a “Shiva_Sevaa”, I am writing here a few lines about some important “Shiva_Vrata” performances. To my limited knowledge, there are Four Important “Shiva_Vrata” Performances. Viz. 1)Shivaraatree : the 14th Kalaa of Moon in the “KrushNa_Paxa” period. i.e. When Moon moves in the Angular Space such that the lines Sun_To_Earth and Earth_To_Moon make an angle between 336 to 348 Deg. 2)PradoSha : the 13th Kalaa of Moon in the “KrushNa_Paxa” period. i.e. When Moon moves in the Angular Space such that the lines Sun_To_Earth and Earth_To_Moon make an angle between 324 to 336 Deg. 3)Ekaadashee : The 11th Tithee in the Shukla and KrushNa Paxa i.e. When Moon moves in the Angular Space such that the lines Sun_To_Earth and Earth_To_Moon make an angle between 120 to 312 Deg. (in Shukla Paxa) and 300 to 312 Deg. (in the “KrushNa_Paxa”). 4)“Somavaara” A Day of the Seven Day Week (First “Working Day” following the Holiday on Sunday in the Modern Practice) In one Solar year, (on an average) there are 12 Shivaraatree's, 12 PradoSha's 24 Ekaadashee's and 52 “Somavaara's” making a total of 100 Days which can be considered as Specially Auspicious to perform “Shiva_Vrata_Poojaa_Aaraadhanaa”. However, many “Somavaara's” may coincide with some of the Shivaraatree's, PradoShaa's or Ekaadashee's thus reducing the total no. of days in a year. Therefore, Lord Shiva has been kind to Grant “Special Status” and Significance to the performance of such Soma_Shivaraatree's, Soma_PradoShaa's and Soma_Ekaadashee's, so that his followers gain higher Level of “PuNyaarjana” while practicing these Special days. Further, “Somavaara” days in the Months of “ShraavaNa” and “Kaartika” are also similarly granted with Special Status and Significance. If a Shraavana_Somavaara or Kaartika_Somavaara is also associated with Shivaraatree, PradoSha or Ekaadashee then the Status of such a Day is considered to rise further. Tomorrow, Monday, 21st Aug. 2006 is one such day of TriveNee_Sangama of it's being a 1)Somavaara in 2)Shraavana and associated with 3)Shivaraatree. Shiva_Bhaktaa's may kindly take advantage of this Special Triply Significant Day. On Shivaraatree's, and Ekaadashee's, there is a Recommended “Upa_Vaasa” (Commonly practiced as Fasting) for all 24 Hours (even for 72 Hours in case of TriRaatra_Vratadhaaree's). One can fast as is permissible to his Age, Sex, Health and Family Traditions. The Best is to limit the Food intake to Fruits and Liquids such as Fruit Juices, Fruit Shakes Milk, Curds, (Tea, Coffee, Butter Milk, Water) etc. More important than this Fasting in the Plane of the “Physical_Body” is spend time in “Mental_Intellectual_Nearness” with Lord Shiva. This is achieved by spending as much time as possible, in “Shiva Aaraadhanaa”, which can be a) Performance of Shiva_Poojaa, b)Reciting of Shiva_Mantra_Stotraadikaa's c) Reading “Shiva_Saahitya” and trying to understand “Shiva_Svaroopa” & “Shiva_Leelaa's” described in this literature. There are a number of ancient Veda_SuUktaa's and Upanishadic, PauraaNic Texts in “SansKRuta”. In addition there are many Shiva_Stotraa's written by Great Scholars such as “Shankaraachaarya”, “Pushpadanta”, etc. which are as sacred as Veda-Upanishadic VaaNmayaa's. Many of them are available on Internet at URLs such as : A) http://sanskrit.gde.to/ B) http://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/ C)http://astrojyoti.com/PuranasSanskrit.htm Shiva_Bhaktaa's may take advantage of these facilities and read as many Original SansKRuta Texts as possible. Thanking all of you for your kind patience and consideration to allow me to Repeat what most of you might have already known well, Yours Sincerely, Dr. Ghare, Sunday, 20th August 2006, _______________ Express yourself instantly with MSN Messenger!
