Dear Lien

Which longitude and latitude are you using for your place of birth? My programme gives six choices for the place you mention.

in 1981 Saturn was in Virgo which is placed on the eleventh house cusp for a Scorpio asc which you say is your lagna.

Which bit of your birth data have I not understood do you think??

best wishes

Re: saturn/knees

Hello Chandrashekhar and Margaret,

I am also confused. I was also told it was Capricorn ruling the knees and in past 2 months

another family member with lots of capricorn also had knee problems.

I have never been told that Saturn was in the 11th in any of my charts. So, this is news to

me.

Also--My main question about knees was with respect to the recent period of Saturn

Combust because many people keep telling me of their knee problems at this time.

I did a google search for all vedic astrological input on Saturn and found interesting

perspectives (Saturn being bones, muscles, knees--and of course delays and obstacles).

I liked the psychological ones the best. i.e. 'bending the knee" signifies

becoming humble. After injuring my knees about three times since the combust period

began---i decided perhaps I needed to learn some lesson--

I've been trying to use this time in a different way...moving more slowly, making some

offerings to help others, give away posessions and appologizing for any shortness I have

had in interacting with those close to me. Opening myself to less Self-righteous ways.

(And i see there is much work to still be done as I take great delight in being 'right")

While these are adjustments I should ALWAYS live with...I am currently putting a little extra

attention on these things. My cut knee is healing just fine, swelling and bruising are

better. My pulled muscles in both knees seem better too.

Chandrashekhar, can you enlighten me more about Kala Purusha (time personified)

and specifically the 'knee' aspect as you have been taught?

Thank you both for your observations!!

My lagna is Virgo/Kanya.

I have Rahu in Capricorn.

See my newest post to Margaret--I will clear up my birth time issue.

Dear Margaret,

I think I see what the problem is...

The 1981 birth date belongs to Anand who posted his birth information in POST # 11447.

My birth information was posted earlier and that is what Chandrashekhar has been

working with.

For your information, I will post it again and perhaps you will see some similaities in

knee issues between myself and Anand!

My DOB

27th August 1952

Place

Austin, Texas

Time

8:12 a.m.

I am Kanya rising. Shani in 1st house. Rahu in Makara.

I think someone mentioned that Anand's Shani is also in Virgo.

Thank you. Hope this clarifies everything!!!

Dear Lien

Thanks for the correction1

In your chart natal Jupiter is currently aspected by transit Saturn, so giving a simple explanation of affliction to knees currently, without going into any further detail--so sorry but am very heavily focussed on non astrological projects at the moment and only looked at your query yesterday as a means of pleasant distraction!!

However it is easy to experiment with the Cap/Sag rulership of knees debate, by simply collecting charts of people with Sat in Cap and Jup in Sag and finding out which of them have moles on the knee area from birth. I would say that a person with the latter is more likely to have the mole on the knee than the former, unless the decanate placements have something else to add.

Briefly one for your collection can be the chart I posted recently of the lady who wanted to know if she would have children. The chart shows Sat in Cap in ninth house. When a rasi has own ruler placed in it then that area of the body has a mark or mole from birth. This lady has moles on her left calve region from birth, not on her knee.

This is the acid test of which rasi rules which part of the body, and is the simplest way to find and evidence for yourself,

Best wishes

m

THIS IS INTERESTING MARGARET!

You may like solving this question on another person's chart.

Male

DOB

5 Jan 1949

Norman, Oklahoma

6:14 a.m.

LARGE BIRTH MOLE about 1 1/2 to 2 inches down from LEFT knee on inside leg..

In MAY this year --for no reason --his left knee began to hurt and stopped him from

doing his morning routine of running.

SEPT. 1967 he broke his achillies tendon while running and had to stop being on running

scholarship to his university.

USUALLY he experiences pain and gets physical therapy for RIGHT KNEE problems.

MOST JYOTISHIS WONDER IF HIS BIRTHTIME IS INCORRECT...it was a concern since

apparently it was decided by one that he was 0 degrees Saggitarius Lagna and he 'seemed'

more like a capricorn.

With this 6:14 birthtime he does have Saturn in ninth.

Another jyotishi felt he might have been born at 6:09 a.m.

After much rectification and looking into hospitalizations--it was decided the 6:14 time

was correct.

Another frequently asked question is about his body hair. He has a very furry body, bushy

eyebrows and large dark eyes.

When you finish other duties--you may want to examine this and see if he fits your mole-

model!

All the best,

Lien

Speaking just from my own experience, I would have to

say no. It's too general an influence for everyone.

Saturn is combust the Sun only for about 35 days

in a row per year, and the period when that takes place

would be later in the year each year and probably not a

reliable indicator. Combust planets are considered to be

weakened while combustion occurs and might be associated

with the possibility of certain physical weaknesses, but

not necessarily injuries. For injuries to take place, Saturn

would have to be afflicted by another planet either in the

natal chart or by transit, or forming a major transit to the

chart. In other words, I would not consider a combust

Saturn by itself a reliable indicator to anticipate knee

problems. On the other hand, if Saturn is afflicted or

transiting the natal chart under the circumstances I have

described, the injury might be subtly aggravated if Saturn

is also combust.

power when under influence of Saturn?

Oh yes, in terms of body symbology. I love "Heal Your Body"

by Louise L. Hay. It's a treasure. About knee problems, she says:

"Represents pride & ego...stubborn ego and pride. The inability to

bend. Fear. Won't give in." This relates to what you said about

the 'lesson'.

Here's the real reason, in my view: Transiting Saturn in sidereal

Cancer started aspecting your Mercury during the second half

of July. This is a major transit because Mercury is lord of your

Virgo ascendant and represents the physical body. This transit

can indicate mental fatigue or tiredness. Most astrologers consider

Saturn as representing the knees, and Mercury represents the nerves.

Saturn can crimp, pinch or obstruct and as 6H lord of acute health

conditions, can indicate some type of a knee injury. Saturn aspects

Mercury through the end of October. So babying the knees might

be a good idea within this period.

Dear Anand:

Sorry about the delay, but here are a few health

comments about your knees:

For reasons I hope to explain, I am not surprised

about your knee injury. You have natal Sun, Ketu

in Venus in Capricorn, and Capricorn is given

rulership over the knee area by most astrologers.

Ketu in this sign is considered to be unfriendly to

the knees. So there's a genetic vulnerability here

that should be watched throughout your life.

Mars and Mercury in Aquarius indicate vulnerability

to the shank, calf or ankle area, and can point to ankle

accidents or injuries, or problems of circulation.

The 10H represents the joints, knees and bones and

it's ruled by the Sun in Capricorn, with Ketu. Again,

knee weaknesses or vulnerabilities are shown.

Moon in Pisces is in a weak avasthas (within the first

5 degrees of its sign) and can indicate sensitive feet

or the need to wear well-fitting or custom shoes.

Pamper your feet! Don't wear shoes that are too

small for your feet.

At the time of your accident on July 30, Saturn,

representing the knees, was transiting malefic natal

Rahu. In addition, Sun as 10L of the knees was also

transiting Rahu, and pointing toward a knee injury.

Plus, transiting Mars as 6L of accidents was passing

through the 10H of the knees and aspecting Mars and

Mercury in Aquarius, signifying the shank area.

That's quite a few factors related to knees and legs.

So. Don't rush your recovery from this injury. Be wise

and do everything in your power not to let knee or

leg problems become chronic. Leg exercises to increase

the blood circulation of your legs might also be a good

idea, but don't get injured exercising either. That would

be a strange irony!

And please keep in mind that transiting Saturn will be

aspecting your natal Sun off and on between now and

next July--with both planets signifying the bones in

some way or structural matters. Take care of your

overall health and your knees.

In the more immediate future, Saturn will pull away

from the troublesome natal Rahu influence by the end

of August and that should bring you more relief.

Nevertheless, I would still encourage you to give

yourself additional time not to make heavy demands

on your knees or legs until you feel the injury is fully

recovered. Please do not neglect further problems.

Full recovery now means less chance of developing

a chronic knee problem later in life. Scorpio

lagnas can make heavy demands upon their body and

so can people who have a number of planets in Capricorn.

It's hard for them to slow down or give their body any

quarter or the rest it needs. By listening to your body and

approaching the achievement of your goals with balance

and moderation, you will be fine.

Best wishes, Haizen Paige

Thanks Haizen! Your analysis below was very helpful!

I have also been feeling the fatigue that you mentioned

below. And, I remember reading that louise hay book some

time ago--I think it might be interesting to revisit some of

her suggestions. October seems a long way off!

Thank you for all your observations and information.

All the best,

Lois Hay book is a gem in my view.

Sometimes Saturn wants us to rest more and build ourselves up

and that can take one a few week to complete the process.

It doesn't have to mean a bum knee for that length of time. But it

tends to be a serious soul-searching transit, where some important

decisions may need to be made. Saturn to Mercury can also indicate

more demands at work too. The good part is that it's a fantastic transit

for study and research--what Virgos are prone to love to begin with. It's

just that Mercury, as the Asc lord, is the primary indicator of health,

and Saturn rules the 6H of 'functional' health (how well the body works).

So having the combination of the two shows that you are under 'health'

aspects and your body is likely to require more time and attention until

Saturn is finished with its transit to Mercury. That's all. (Most Virgo Asc

are health-conscious to begin with, and that helps.) Anyway, it might

be interesting for others to know when your knee problem clears up.

Those around you having knee problems would most likely have a

similar transit going on too.

Dear Lien

Yes I looked up the injuries and the dasa do reflect their nature. A good example thanks.

I would caution accepting another's version of their moles and scars however. I once had a male who also needed a correction to lagna who swore he had no scar on his left leg. When he arrived I went through the moles and marks with him (I enjoy stripping men as I find it quite an amusing party trick-- though confess at stopping at needing to see on which testicle they had a vasectomy!) He had an enormous six inch long, one inch wide scar on his left shin. When I asked why he said on the phone he didn't have such a scar he said he had forgotten about it!

Similarly the lady whose chart had Sat in Cap. She said she had no moles on her left leg, I didn't believe her as I trust this aspect of astrology, but when I asked her to show me their absence, there were four little moles. She gasped in surprise and confessed she hardly noticed them.

I think it is good to follow the plan of examining knees of those with Sat in Cap and Jup in Sag as I said before, that way you will build up your own understanding of which is accurate instead of just relying on textbooks.

best wishes

Re: saturn/knees

THIS IS INTERESTING MARGARET!

You may like solving this question on another person's chart.

Male

DOB

5 Jan 1949

Norman, Oklahoma

6:14 a.m.

LARGE BIRTH MOLE about 1 1/2 to 2 inches down from LEFT knee on inside leg.

Lien

collecting charts of people with Sat in Cap and Jup in Sag and finding out which of them

something else to add.

lady has moles on her left calve region from birth, not on her knee.

Dear Lien

As I said earlier, planets in own sign produce moles or marks from birth on the part of body represented by the sign. This is why I posted the experiment of examining those specific charts with Jup in Sag/ Sat in Cap so you could experiment yourself with seeing which signification produced moles on the knee area. In my experience of examining bodies over the decades, it would always be Jup in Sag which gets the mole on knee from birth, not Sat in Cap, but I am open to others presenting evidence to the contrary, I merely present my own experience here.

Other moles or marks can appear on other parts of the body as life evolves and usually correlate to where benefices are located in signs representing that part of the body. This is the same with injuries also, which occur on those parts of the body aspected or afflicted by malefics. In your friend's case with Sun and Jup in Sag asc, the fact that malefic Sun aspects knees i.e Sag and Jup, shows why he keeps needing therapy on the right knee. His feet are also afflicted by Sun's aspect.

I'm sorry I cant post more on this amazing side of kalapurusha, but hopefully you can now experiment for yourself to find out which is the sign associated with knees, rather than taking just my word for it. Though I would point you to Brihat Jataka--amongst too many others to list--, where he gives the fifth and ninth house, third decanate for knees also, and other important techniques for you to learn and use. the most brilliant aspect of this side of astrology is that it is so easy to evidence for yourself with a little real life research.

best wishes

Dear Margaret,

Is the reverse also true? [i.e., whether the statement is true vice-versa, too.....]

Dear All,

I will add another MOLE question.

I am wondering about moles on the BACK. Can you make a case from my chart why the

largest and possibly oldest mole I have is right in the upper center of my back?( opposite

of sternum in front)

Where does something on the back fit in the Kalapurusha model?

This mole has actually been something people compliment me on--

so they think of it as sort of a sign of beauty because it is so centered....I don't know...

In otherwords, most moles are sort of annoyances--whereas--this one is rather lovely, I

guess.

Think about this--why the expression "beauty mark". In the west--body markings are

often called beauty marks. Why such an expression when the origin is so often malific

planets or some precancerous situation medically??? Strange!

Lien

p.s. i just also discovered a little scar I forgot about on my left knee! You are right

Margaret--we forget we have these things! Better to 'move on" sometimes!!

ALSO...just to add one last thing --today TWO MORE PEOPLE TOLD ME THEY HAD KNEE

PROBLEMS! I did not ask for this information. But, I have shared with you all this

observation I have had just during the Saturn Combust period--people come to me to

inform me of knee problems! This is what started this long forum thread!

Dear All,

I have one more instance of marks/moles.I have a dark mark on my

forehead, near my hairline, from my birth. It was most prominent

during my childhood. I have mars in Aries in 10th house (along with

venus and mercury). So, I think this fits with swasketra definition?

However, I have exalted jupiter in 1st house. Now, this gets

confusing if the exalted planets also give marks corresponding to

their house placement.

Coming back to saturn/knees: My saturn is in second house in Leo

with Rahu. I have lot of small scars on both my knees ( due to lot

of knee injuries as a kid). I suddenly have knee problems from last

couple of weeks. This is interesting since I had no trouble with

them for a long time (years!).

Interestingly enough,I have no scars on my thighs. I had some cuts

and bruises to my thighs as a kid. Again, when I looked for them,

all scars on thighs disappeared, whereas the scars on knees

remained. There is moon in Sagittarius and no planets in Capricon.

Hope this adds to the discussion.

SK

Dear Margaret,

>In my experience of examining bodies over the decades, it would always be

>Jup in Sag which gets the mole on knee from birth, not Sat in Cap, but I

>am open to others presenting evidence to the contrary, I merely present

>my own experience here.

When using drekkans for determination of moles, we will indeed take the

9th house for the left knee, and 5th for the right knee. Or opposite... I

have a mole on the right side of my penis, who is the 2nd house from lagna

for 3rd drekkan lagna, and have Jupiter there in Leo, while left side

would be Mercury in own sign in Gemini. Venus in own sign is in Taurus,

well, have to check my testicles, I didn't look there so closely. Even

exalted planets or planets in friends sign may give moles, I think.

This is according to Parasara Hora Sastra, chapter 12 on effects of the

first house. So perhaps you can check in your examples whether those

people having moles on the knees had a 3rd drekkan rising ascendant and a

planet in own sign either in 5th or 9th.

Otherwise the common understanding is that the sign of Capricorn

represents the knees, while Sagittarius represents the hips and thighs,

but then for seeing moles we have to apply the principle of drekkan. An

example, chart attached has a big mole on the left cheek, even with hair

growing out of it. Look good according to the drekkan principle.

1st drekkan = head and face

2nd drekkan= body and arms

3rd drekkan= pelvis to feet

She has Saturn in 8th house in Capricorn....Saturn represents hair as

well.

You can see the table in Santhanam's BPHS.

Dear Lien

Moles traditionally were a sign of beauty to the extent that people would even pencil in a mole on their face to enhance their beauty in England and across Europe centuries ago.

Of course nowadays we have a different perspective on moles with medicine associating many of the blacker variety with cancer, but this does not mean that all moles are cancerous of course.

With regard to the mole on your back I would attribute it to Sun in own sign of Leo, but the fact that it is aspected by two benefics can only enhance its beauty!

best wishes

Re: saturn/knees

Dear All,

I will add another MOLE question.

I am wondering about moles on the BACK. Can you make a case from my chart why the

largest and possibly oldest mole I have is right in the upper center of my back?( opposite

of sternum in front)

Where does something on the back fit in the Kalapurusha model?

This mole has actually been something people compliment me on--

so they think of it as sort of a sign of beauty because it is so centered...I don't know...

Hi,

Of course there are these factors along with many others, I merely didn't want to get too complicated about this. In addition planets in own navamsa are also considered to give moles, the list is endless.......................................................the variables are multiple, and unfortunately I have to many things demanding my attention now to continue with this fascinating thread, though have enjoyed watching everyone undress and pay attention to their bodies!! Perhaps more jyotishes will now make good use of this aspect of astrology as all people I have used it with over the years have been convinced from the outset of how accurate this system is.

Apologies to anyone else who would like me to respond but I am definitely unable to continue though will enjoy catching up later

best wishes
