Guest guest
Disciple: What is the significance of prostration to the Guru or God? Maharshi: Prostration signifies subsidence of the ego, and it means merging into the Source. God or Guru cannot be deceived by outward genuflections, bowing and prostrations. He sees whether the ego is there or not. Disciple: Will not Bhagavan give me some prasad from his leaf as a mark of his grace? Maharshi: Eat without thinking of ego. Then what you eat becomes Bhagavan's prasad. Guest guest
Yes, Bhagavan visibly seemed to have shown His displeasure on people who treated prostration as a mere ritual. Once He commented to the devotees present around Him "this sort of prostration looks like beating me". We may remember this incident :- One day a man came and prostrated before Bhagavan and kept some fruiits as offering. When he left, some one told Bhagavan "this man prayed to you for promotion and he got it - for that he has come to Ramanashram and has given this offering to you. Bhagavan cryptically smiled and kept quiet. Curious devotees asked Bhagavan for this smile. Bhagavan not hiding His divine smile replied "it is pre-destined that he got the promotion - I am nothing to do with it - now I think what would have happened if he did not get the promotion" - he meant the man would have stopped coming to Ramanashram.
