Guest guest
Dear Family, Namaste! I just uploaded the transcript of chat discussion that we had on Saturday. There was one more session on Sunday and I will upload that too. The file is a word document in the files section under the folder Devi Mandir Online Classes. Please take a look at it. The topic is Goal Setting. We would like to have a vibrant discussion on the importance of goals in our lives, why goals? How to set goals, etc? this week. Next week's topic: Puja with love and prayers, srini
Guest guest
Thank you, Srini, for uploading the class files. The class is wonderful! How kind of you and Ramya to share yourselves in this way. Guest guest
Namaste' I just finished reading the transcripts from the online classes. I am so grateful they were posted sice I wasn't able to participate at the time. I had a thought on the Yamas and the influence they have on goal setting and wanted to share it. I have always thought of the yamas as restraints... or things we don't want to be (violent liars who are immodest, greedy and take what doesn't belong to us.) Could we say that since Yama is the God of Death that if we don't practice the yamas it will mean death to our goals? And that by practicing the yamas we are able to be at peace and in alignment with the goodness and love that is drawing us closer to Maa, and thus we are more able to create and manifest our goals? Guest guest
Dear Morningsong, My understanding of goals are that they are specific projects. Example: Climb Mount Everest, Write a book, Memorize a scripture, Save 10 million $. These goals define what you do. Yamas provide the criteria or attitudes that we adopt as we try to achieve our goals. I will write this book without hurting anyone, without lying, without stealing, etc. They thus define what kind of book I will write, for example. So as spiritual speakers if we achieve our goals at the expense of the Yamas, I agree it would not be worth it. We would be killing our goals I hope this helps. This is my understanding from talking to Swamiji. He also said Yamas help define the lifestyle you choose as you achieve your goals. I will post a question for discussion on this topic ina day or two. with love srini , "c_morningsong" <shaktimaa wrote: > > Namaste' > > I just finished reading the transcripts from the online classes. Guest guest
Hi Morningsong, You could also say that the yamas mean the death of all our negative tendencies, the obstacles to realization. Just as you suggested. But, as interesting as these connections of meaning around "death" are, I think it's really interesting that yama means "control", as in pranayama, or control of prana, and that Yama, the god of death, is, as Srini said, the Ultimate control(ler). In this life it doesn't matter how exhaulted or degraded you are. Ultimately, death will come and justice with Him. Jai Maa!
