Guest guest
Both Shastras and Nirvikalpa Samadhi are important and helpful and support each other. Upanishads make sense and are very easy to understand after Nirvikalpa Samadhi. The reason for that is that Nirvikalpa Samadhi reveals the nature of the Self independent of thought as Sat-Chit-Anand. Although Upanishads describe the simple truth of the Self and how to attain it, before Nirvikalpa, the scriptures appear mysterious. After Nirvikalpa Samadhi, the Mahavakayas become crystal clear. There are highly advanced Sadhakas, who after hearing the Truth even once, immediately recognize the Self. But generally aspirants have to hear the truth of the Self, carefully reflect on it and contemplate it to purify their intellect. In Bhagavad Gita, Sri Krishna specifically describes what the Yogi should do to meditate on the Atman (See Chapter VI). Deep inquiry, reflection, and meditation on the Self, Grace of the Guru, and surrender to the Lord are needed for the mind to consciously enter what the ancients called the Cave of the Heart and Know directly the Self-Nature.
