Is protesting against anything outdated, replaced by just protesting?

Yes. >Is protesting against anything outdated, replaced by just protesting? > No. "Protest against" still has its place. The intransitive "protest" means, according to Random House and OED, "to give manifest expression to objection or disapproval." "In the '60s I often protested against the Vietnam War." The placards, the slogans, the marching -- all of that was a protest against the war in which we protested against the war and simultaneously protested the war. But I don't think Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati was mounting a protest against offenses to Krsna -- he was simply roundly protesting the offenses.
