Could it be that by following the Yamas the sadhaka achieves power

over death? I recall a discussion about once one is no longer

vulnerable to death the soul reincarnates but with memories intact so

that she/he will not have to re-remember all over again. More

efficient use of life after life. Jai Maa

Dear Sadhumaa,

There has always been a connection between Yama, the God of Death, and

spiritual wisdom. Nachiketas had to go to Yama's house to receive the

teachings of the Katha Upanishad.

Sannyasins and Sannyasinis ceremonially burn their bodies and all

their possessions, attachments, and identifications in the fire of

renunciation when they take the ochre cloth- which is itself the color

of that fire, always reminding one that we have nothing in this world

except God, and God alone.

Swami Satyananda spent many years in a cremation ground, as did Sri

Ramakrishna.

When we meditate, we are advised to do so as though Death has His

fingers in our hair.

Real religion is not for the fainthearted.

With Love,

Kumari
