I have finally learned the letters, and the Matrka Nyasa and Bahya Nyasa certainly seem a good way to practice, and fun too (especially backwards:)). I think it will help to visualise the letter while pronouncing it. Also the idea of reading along with the cd is very helpful. Please allow me to add another very effective way of learning how to read: by writing. I have begun copy the Guru Gita text by hand, only one or two verses a day, but I notice it really helps come to grips with all the consonant combinations.
