Guest guest
Dear Linda, you know how in the beginner's puja we place the mantra in our fingers and in our body (see p.114-115 of the Advanced Shiva puja book, but it is in the Beginner's Shiva puja as well). The Matrika Nyasa and Bahya Nyasa are similar: instead of the mantra (namah shivaya), we now place the Sanskrit letters in our body and on the petals of the chakras. The order of the letters for the nyasas is the same as the order of the letters in the Sanskrit alphabet, so it is a good way to practice the alphabet combined with learning the nyasas. The alphabet can be found at www.omniglot.com/writing/sanskrit.htm. You can download the page and then,if you want to memorize the alphabet in a playful but effective manner,I can recommend the cd 'The Sanskrit Alphabet, chanting with Ma Bhaskarananda'. You actually learn by singing the letters in different combinations. For me it was very effective, because it is like learning a song and you once you remember the tune, you remember the letters. If you're interested, you can find more information via www.anandaashram.org. hope this helps with love, Henny -- In , nierika wrote: > > henny wrote: > > ...thank you for your advice on how to practice reading Sanskrit. Guest guest
That's a great link henny. Lots of good links at the bottom of the page too (I had no idea devanagiri was so complex).
