Q: How long is a Guru necessary for Self-ralisation?

A: Guru is necessary so long as there is ignorance. Ignorance is due to self-imposed but wrong limitation of the Self. God , on being worshipped, bestows steadiness in devotion which leads to surrender. On the devotee surrendering, God shows his mercy by manifesting as the Guru. The Guru, otherwise God, guides the devotee, saying that God is within and that he is not different from the Self. This leads to introversion of mind and finally to realisation.

Q: If Grace is so important, what is the role of individual effort?

A: Effort is necessary up to the state of realisation. Even then the Self should spontaneously become evident, otherwise happiness will not be complete. Up to that state of spontaneity there must be effort in some form or other.

There is state beyond our efforts or effortlessness. Until it is realised effort is necessary. After tasting such bliss, even once, one will repeatedly try to regain it. Having once experienced the bliss of peace no one wants to be out of it or to engage in any other activity.

Hi Vinod,

The message I put yesterday had just happened like that without much notice. Hope it is the Grace of Ramana and only Ramana . I am very happy to be in this group sharing all your views. Sometimes I feel as if there are no words to express the Grace. There is nothing else other than Ramana. Ramana is the Prana, the breath, the mind .... etc. He is everything. Without him there is no life.

I am sorry to put these lines in my words. I felt like expressing all this to you so i did. Thanx to all for giving me this opportunity.

Yes shilpa, you are right. its all HIS grace. After

the intro of Sri Ramana given by my uncle long long

ago, maybe 1997 or '98, i've not been able to dedicate

myself to Sri Ramana all these years.

Now-a-days i've not been comfortable at work. two

weeks ago, i was just swapping channels and suddenly i

saw a documentary of Sri Ramana coming in one channel.

Then my uncle sent the invite to join this grp. As u

rightly said, "there are no words to express HIS

Grace". Maybe i'm badly in need of HIS grace and thats

y HE's involving me all these activities and by

thanking you all, i think i am thanking him in-turn.

Thanx and regards,

Vinod
