Guest guest
Hey, guess what? I just noticed that the group is 5 years old today! That's not too shabby by Web standards, so ... Happy Birthday to Us! GROUP INFORMATION Members: 2154 Category: Hinduism Founded: Sep 5, 2001 Language: English I hope all members will take a moment to give themselves a big pat on the back, as the group would be nothing without you all coming around and gabbing and discussing and arguing and sharing and helping and advising ... I feel honored to be associated with such a great bunch of people in this beautiful "virtual Devi temple"! Thank you all! You know, in fact Shakti Sadhana is actually closer to 6 years old, though exactly how close I don't really recall anymore. We were a Club for a year or so, until Clubs got eliminated in favor of back in 2001-2002. While the Club was still active, I came over here one day -- September 5, 2001, in fact -- and set up a Group, and began moving materials over here from clubs. There were some weird politics going on then, as some of our older members will certainly recall. This group was actually established as a kind of "divine ladies auxiliary" spin-off by a couple of moderators from another Hindu-themed ; I was invited to co-moderate at some pretty early point. Almost immediately I e-met Nora -- one of our very first members -- and discovered that we shared a strong devotion to Devi as well as a pretty serious intellectual interest in Shaktism. We became good friends and soon she became an SS moderator as well, when the original founders took a several-month hiatus. Left unattended, we quickly got into trouble, as children will. *lol* By the time the original founders returned, what had started out as a pretty straightforwardly Shaiva-oriented group had become a messy hotbed of rabble-rousing Shaktism. The token Shakta inmates had taken over the asylum, led by Nora and I, arguably the nuttiest Shaktas of the bunch. Needless to say, the founders did not appreciate these developments, and -- after a fairly edgy standoff -- we moved our operations completely to the Groups format, and did the best we could on our own. Thankfully, Kochu soon came into the picture and gently fine-tuned our understanding of and appreciation for what Shakti Sadhana is and can be. He quickly became our third moderator, productively focusing our abundant enthuiasm and energy into much deeper, more powerful and more productive channels of authentic, living Hindu Shaktism. He facilitated Nora's formal initiation into Srividya by Sri Bhasurananda, and mine by Sri Amritananda, which developments have further changed the ever-evolving face and character of the Group. After several false starts, we found a wonderful fourth moderator in Msbauju, who brought her quiet efficiency and attention to detail to the massive task of cataloguing our increasingly vast archives, in hopes of making them usefully accessible through our Web site, shaktisadhana.org (established in 2002), even as Nora continues her own massive effort at redesigning that site with her increasingly impressive grasp of design theory and practice. Last but definitely not least, we recently welcomed our fifth and latest moderator, Adwaith Menon, a true devotee of Devi, a fellow- shishya of Amrita, and an all-around knowledgeable and devoted upasak, who has quickly proved his value and dedication to the Group. What exactly *my* role is, I am not quite sure anymore! Class slacker, maybe? *lol* In any event, I am really glad to have been a part of this most interesting and productive experiment; truly a labor of love, created with some of the finest people I ever hope to meet. Here's to an amazingly eventful and (dare I say?) life-altering five years - - I can't even begin to imagine where it is all taking us, or what the next five years might bring. But I am very happy to be traveling with all of you. Big respects at y'all! Much Love! DB

Guest guest
Happy Birthday. I remember all the stuff that happened, but as merely a member with no real interest in the exact direction of the group, I must say that there were some priceless conversations early on that really gave me pause. I thought Adi Shakti was cool, but I see how her, "There there, My Child!" attitude was off-putting to those who wished less to create another cult but instead foster greater personal inquiry. So I understood the spilts that went on, some of which have still made some internet oriented and attached individuals have some hard feelings. Hence the continued bad mouthing one finds for us some places. Some people think Devi should exist without a pussy!!! Ha ha ha..... Anyway, I have always respected the mods here, and I would like to commend this very awesome forum where devotion is the main tenor, devotion to Devi, and where other considerations are correctly pushed into their secondary category. For those who need illustration, here's a primary focus question, "How can I make the Divine Mother happy?" and here's a secondary focus question, "How can I slaughter my enemies using Dhoomavati and Bagalamukhi mantra?" I guess for everything there's a place and time. For those secondary concerns I really do recommend ISSPLIST , home of the prayoga, for everything. But for nestling against the breast of the Mother, this has really become the spot. Except for the spot of the actual representation of the Mother, one's consort. Jai Ma. Jaya Woman. Woohoo. (esoteric interpretation - woo = womb=Devi, hoo ((as in hoo wee)) = mantra of lingam=Shiva, thus, the uniting of Shiva/Shakti, woohoo!!! say it with divine pride.) - "Devi Bhakta" <devi_bhakta > <> Tuesday, September 05, 2006 9:22 AM Happy Birthday to Shakti Sadhana Group! > Hey, guess what? > > I just noticed that the group is 5 years old today! Guest guest
What can I say? But WOW!. Just few days ago my conversation with one of our esteem member : virendra qazi virendra qazi : Swami Laxman Joo was last acharya of Kashmir Shaivism. As 100 year birthday celebration of this great saint, there is International seminar in Kashmir.I have been invited to present a paper. I am thinking this one Basic Human Values and Kashmir Shaivism. thegoddessisinme2002 : Can I ask something? Question abt this celebration of birthday. Isn't it attachment? Swami Ji is no more, so why celebrate the birthday. Shouldn't we not celebrate his Samadhi, makes more sense? Swami Laxman Joo is no more but everyday he is born in each and everyone of us. Everyday is a day to celebrate his birth. That is how I feel about Shakti Sadhana, everyday is a new day for me in this Cyber Temple. Everyday I am learning new things, meeting new people. Even having known DB, Kochu and several cyber friends for sometime now, they are always new to me. There is always something new to learn from them. Thus I look forward chatting with them always. DB has briefly summarize the History of SS. What left for me to say but the many questions friends have asked me : how do you get involved with SS. Now where should I begin? I remember one day, I have this whole collections of Kali Picture I took during Kali Adipuram Festival. My father in law managed a small kali shrine in Singapore [ the shrine is no more. But if you like to take a peek, its in the SS homepage photo gallery. Look for Kali Adipuram Festival]. I showed these pictures to one American friend from PA whom I met in one of the chat room. She exclaimed: Nora these are beautiful pictures. You should share them with others. But Who? I asked. Somehow I landed in the Earth Gathering group. They saw the pics but say nothing. They are more interested to know about me, but I do not like to talk abt me. I like to talk abt Kali and Devi but nobody wants to talk abt Kali or Devi. I think somebody from SS saw the pics and invited me to SS. I accepted the invitation but never really look at the group, until one day. I'm like the many new comers, I dont know what they are talking about in the club. I felt lost, so I browsed their photo gallery, amazed when I saw a lot of DEVI pics. Suddenly i'm reminded of a particular image been playing in my mind. And I saw this whole list of people online. Not knowing whom should I choose to say hello. But there is one name somehow looks familiar to me : Devi Bhakta. I just know the name Devi, not knowing what does Bhakta means. And my first remarked was to Devi Bhakta: you have fantastic collections of Devi pic. I am looking for a particular image: Parvati sitting under a tree in meditation. One hand holding a rosary and another a pot supposedly elixir for healing purposes. I have this collections of Kali pictures I like you to see. Its not the normal picture you see in the mainstream temple. Very tribal. After seeing it Devi Bhakta remarked : Nora these pictures should be in our group! I got another shock when I realize Devi Bhakta is not a woman as I perceived but a man. And the next I know he made me the moderator….. the rest you all know. Then one day I told DB : its scary. We are managing a Shakti group with no guidance. We need somebody more experience to help us. I guess DEVI must have listened to our prayers. SHE send in Kochu… then msbauju and Adwaith Menon Well we should not forget our past moderators who have in their own special way help us too in managing this group: YeShe, Mary Ann, Sunelectric. And the last but not least, the members who have been very patience and accommodating. I humbly thank you.
