Guest guest
I think what he means, or normally people means by the word "Mahavidhya" are the 10 forms of devi, well know in tantra. These are considered as "10 mahavidhyas'. In almost all the shastras they are mentioned as follows (or where I have found they are as follows ) 1) Kali 2) Tara 3) Mahavidhya (Tripurasundari) 4) Bhuvnashwari 5) Bhairavi 6) Chinnamasta 7) Dhumavati 8) Bhagulamukhi 9) Matangi 10) Lakshmi They have a tough set of rules to be followed in order to complete any one of them. For each you need to know the A) Main Mantra B) Yantra C) Kavach D) stwa (s is half pronounced) Some text (like rudrayamala tantra) also says that you have to recite 1000 names (sasra nama) for these sadhana, apart form the above 4 things. Off course havan/yagyna of the main mantra also needs to be done. It is said if one can complete at least 1 in one birth she/he is very fortunate. Guest guest
One Mahavidya is plenty for one lifetime (or a thousand lifetimes) anyway. They all work if you pick one and remain with Her, and don't waste time and energy hopping around, starting sadhana after sadhana for this deity and that one, without ever completing any. You're just creating complications where none need exist. For the record, Dhoomavati and Bagala work just as well as any other Mahavidya -- there is no low or high except in the mind and approach of the individual sadhaka. Devi Herself, in all of Her forms, is unaffected by such earthbound distinctions. Guest guest
Number 10's title as a Mahavidya is Kamala (Lady of the Lotus). Although she totally resembles mother Lakshmi, she is never shown with Vishnu as her consort -- she is Kali's energy manifesting through Lakshmi's form. -- Len/ Kalipadma Dhirendra Pal Singh <dpal.singh > wrote: In almost all the shastras they [10 Mahavidyas] are mentioned as follows (or where I have found they are as follows ) 1) Kali 2) Tara 3) Mahavidhya (Tripurasundari) 4) Bhuvnashwari 5) Bhairavi 6) Chinnamasta 7) Dhumavati 8) Bhagulamukhi 9) Matangi 10) Lakshmi How low will we go?
