A sculptor applies finishing touches to an idol of the Hindu goddess

Durga in the eastern Indian city of Kolkata September 12, 2006.

The annual Hindu festival of Durga Puja (Prayers for Durga) or

Navratri, will be celebrated in most parts of India between Sept. 22

and Oct. 2. It is one of the most popular festivals for Hindus. In

Hindu mythology, Durga symbolises power and the triumph of good over

evil.
