Interestingly 'Living in the present' -was the central theme of my topic of transcendental truth - this past Saturday!. The present alone is what we have - at any time. The present is a thin line where past meets the future. The gap can be reduced ultimately to nothing - but that is everything. And in present there is no time - one transcends the time itself - it is the transcendental living. What is there is only our presence. Karmanyevaadhikaaraste.. emphasizes the fact that one can only act in the present - not in past nor in future since one can only act in the present and results come after the action or future to the action and one has no control on the future. Ego can exist only with reference to past or with aspiration about the future. I wan to realize in future is a notion only since future never comes! Surrendering to the present is surrendering the ego. All is there is only NOW and Here. Excitement in the present arises with ego coming into picture with past and future baggage. Surrenderance can be effective only when we bring in Iswara. The regrets of the past, excitement of the present and worries about the future can be surrendered only when we offer to all to Iswara, the past, present, and future with Iswaraarpita buddhi and prasaada buddhi. Then one can remain as witness witnessing the beautiful drama of the Lord – there is no place for the ego. That is also the meaning of sarvadharmaan parityasya.. Hari Om! My thanks to mahaadvaita-ji for his question that enabled us to read these wonderful thoughts. I am hopeful respected Subbu-ji or the Sunder-ji(s) will also talk about yoga and provide us some instructions on how to make use of it in helping to quieten the agitated mind. This particular post of Sadananda-ji reminds me of a song sung by Kishore - I will translate foe the benefit of nonHindi speaking persons- the lyrics are from genius of Gulzar. Aanewala pal jaanewala hai Ho sake to isme zindagi bitaa do pal ye bhi jaane wala hai! [The moment that is about to come is also about to go. If you can catch on that moment and live your life in that moment alone.] Ek bar waqt se lamha gira nahin Wahan daastan mili lamha kahin nahin! [Once, from Time, a moment did not pass( did not fall) There I found what I was yearning for, my destination, AND - the moment itself was nowhere to be found - (i.e. as even i reached my destination i transcended time!)] Hari OM Shyam
