Dear sirs,

Bhghavan is a perfect zen master, not given to outer signs of piety. The account you have given of Bhaghavan has its precedence in a zen master, who was drawing water from the wells, and doing some agricultural work. The disciple who came in search of the famous zen master mistook him to be an ordinary man. Only, subsequently he came to know that he was the great master whom he was searching for. There is a famous verse sung by saint Pattinathar, which is to the following effect: " Is there a specific samadhi by which the great jnanis, who have renounced the world of Maya can be recognized? When driven by hunger, they take food; when driven by the sweat of sweltering heat, they take bath; as far as outer signs are concerned, the jnanis are similar to the so called ajnanis." Of course, in the vision of Bhaghavan there is not a single ajnani. Unlike some masters who are concerned about the growing unspirituality in the world, and the need to

help others, Bhaghavan felt the cosmic harmony in everything. He was not a mathathipathi; nor did he claim to be an avatar. He didn't make glib distinctions between the jnanis and avatars. Bhaghavan did not hide himself behind some curtain, saying that he would give darsan on some specific days like Sivarathri day, Republic day, which is the fashion of many of the gurus. Bhaghavan did not indulge in haranguing about spiritual truth; nor did he advise people to read ponderous works like Brahmasutras to obtain the advaitic knowledge. He did not label his teachings as advaita, indulging in polemics. He was very generous towards the Buddhists, while the traditional masters have been belittling him, being at their wits end to disprove the truth of Buddhism. What a monumental symbol of jivan mukti is Bhaghavan. I feel that the traditional works on Vedanta are much inferior to the teachings of Bhaghavan, as the only motive of the traditional people had been to

discourage all worldviews other than theirs. One can imagine the generosity of Bhaghavn to have conceded the request of some to stand outside the ashram to enable the Kanchi Swamigal to see him, when Bhaghavan did not have any need to see anybody. It will be difficult to see the like of Bhaghavan for thousands and thousands of years.

with respectful regards

Sankarraman
