Respected Guru Visti ji,

I was just reading an online translation of BPHS at the following link:

http://www.brahmansabha.com/Astroloesstions4.php

regarding upapada calculation it says that for even rising signs,2nd

house and for odd rising signs,12th house should be taken for upapada

calculation.

looking forward to your guidance regarding this, whether to calculate

upapada by always taking 12th house or by doing as mentioned above.

Dear Vikas, Namaskar

This is a principle inferred from some authors which is not accepted by

Guruji and is against his teachings.

Best wishes,

Dear Vikas, Namaskar

In other words, we just calculate the upapada from the twelfth house itself.

Best wishes,

Dear Vikas,

Namaskar. If I may add a couple of lines:

1. If odd/even lagna changes UL calculation then why not all other

Arudhas ? But we don't do that, do we ?

2. UL is arudha pada of the 12th house and indicates the giving or

compromising act. Because marriage is primarily giving and compromising,

UL shows the person to whom it is given, i.e. wife. Hence it is always

12-th house, irrespective of lagna rasi's oddity.

Best wishes,

Sourav
