Guest guest
Yes, Sat Nam is specific to Kundalini Yoga. And it is not an ingnorant question, we were all new at some point so please feel free to ask your questions without judging yourself. It means "truth is my identity" and is always used as the final mantra to close a Kundalini session. As a chanted mantra, it is chanted once per breath with "Sat" being much longer (either 8 or 35 times longer) than "Nam." When "Sat" is chanted it is done so in a deep and resonating quality that vibrates/radiates through and up the spine, as is the path of Kundalini energy. "Nam" is chanted in more of an instant, clipped way and is radiated out to infinity. Because of the meaning of Sat Nam, it is also used as a greeting, sometimes at the beginning, but usually at the end of either a verbal or written communication. In this way it is used in a similar fashion to namasté in the hatha yoga traditions. I hope this was helpful to you. You can see the translation of "Sat Nam" in the page kundalini yogamantra.html I think that using this mantra talking to someone is a way to set a vibration of honesty and sincerity. ** May the Peace prevail on Earth ** AC Sujan Singh ------------------------- http://www.yogajap.com
