Guest guest
OM NAMAH SIVAYA thanks for posting the transcripts of the class in files. while i have not been able to attend the live talks i always look forward to reading the discussion. i have a question about the melodies of chanting the scriptures. i noticed a specific 4 part melody in Swamiji's chanting of the Chandi on the cd. it is especially noticable in say Chapter 5 for example. this seems to be the same melody that Shree Maa uses in Her singing of the 1000 names of Kali cd. i am assuming this is no coincidence. can you tell me about the significance of this melody? is it deity specific? this is very interesting to me and i would be delighted about any information you can provide or any resources to find out more about the purpose of this and/or any other melodies used in scripture chanting. Thanks in advance for you time and efforts. -e JAI MAA
Guest guest
Dear Eric, Namaste! Swamiji's answer follows. Sincerely, srini Most of the mantras of the Puranas are in anushtup chandah, 32 syllables to the verse. We can breath at the quarter, half, or at the end of a full verse. Therefore the rhythm is established by the meter of the text. The melodies will follow the meter. There are infinite variations in melody, but the meter must be followed. , "ecjensen_us" <ecjensen_us wrote: > > OM NAMAH SIVAYA > > thanks for posting the transcripts of the class in files. while i > have not been able to attend the live talks i always look forward to > reading the discussion. i have a question about the melodies of > chanting the scriptures. i noticed a specific 4 part melody in > Swamiji's chanting of the Chandi on the cd. it is especially > noticable in say Chapter 5 for example. this seems to be the same > melody that Shree Maa uses in Her singing of the 1000 names of Kali > cd. i am assuming this is no coincidence. can you tell me about the > significance of this melody? is it deity specific? this is very > interesting to me and i would be delighted about any information you > can provide or any resources to find out more about the purpose of > this and/or any other melodies used in scripture chanting.
