According to the Telegraph, Kolkatta, Jan 21st, 2003, it was claimed

that the unending dispute about Sri Adi Sankara's Birth date is settled

and recognised as April 3rd, 509 BC.

It was also claimed that all Sankaracharyas across the country

unanimously accepted April 3rd, 509 BC as Sri Adi Sankara's exact date

of birth and anounced that there was no need for debate on the subject.

Can any one please clarify this for me?

Namaskaram to all,

recently on one of the TV sites, we could see that the scientists have decided to remove the PLUTO from the " position" of a planet. This is based on some modifications they have agreed upon as to what is a planet etc. ( the point is as our limited knowledge moves from step 1 to step 2....we may realise or arrive at some conclusions that may look right at this moment ...but we also need to be aware that these conclusions must be ready for further modifications..)

what surprises a layman like me is as to why on earth we need to fight over the date of birth of Adi Shankara when people who are interested in His teachings know a little about the teachings and no one for sure can say that so many of the books were written by Adi Shankara or the later Shankaras...since every one of the ' PARAMPARA' invariably had the title of SHANKARA.

while one can as a matter of interest, go on with the research and arrive at some conclusions ( which could be debatable as well from points of view of some others) what is more important is to go on with the research on what is being said by him and the PARAMPARA... so that it helps in better understanding and growth.

Sorry, I am not against any ones trying to ascertain what they feel is important and pardon me if i have trepassed in to territory that is not supposed to be by people like me.

namaskaram again

Hi,

I do not think knowing the birth year or birth date

should be of less interest. Knowing what Shankara and

the parampara has teached is very much important but

at the same time doing research to know the time or

the era of the greatest philosopher is also equally

important. By doing the research on that we will not

only get the answer to that question but also we will

be able to find out the secrets of that great path

lead by H H. So, people like me or mr.pakira_reddy

would be interested in knowing that. Members please

provide your inputs on this.
