Guest guest
My name is Augustine. I am European and not a Hindu but I have a long love affair with Ganesh. I was raised in Asia, with many years in Punjab and Kashmir, so I was familiar with Ganesh from an early age. When I left home to go to college, I gave a small statue of Ganesh from Delhi to a friend who had an interest in Hindu religion. A few weeks later, half a world away, I was driving a friend's car in an undersea tunnel. Someone crashed into us from behind, bending the entire car, which spilt half its tank of gasoline. We were lucky there was no fire. In the tunnel it would have been disastrous. I hurt my left knee and was limping for a while. Several days later I received a letter from the friend whom I had given the statue to. He said the statue had fallen and had broken at the left knee. He had a feeling I was hurt and asked if I was okay. I keep an image of Ganesh and several cars I own have been named in his honor. A Scandinavian childhood friend who was also raised in Punjab and Kashmir tells me her son loves Ganesh and always keeps an icon of him. He is a rarity: a happy god. Namaste, Augustine
