Guest guest
Sri Parthasarathi thunai Srimathe ramanujaya Namaha Srimad Vara Vara munayE Namaha Sri vAnAchala mahA munayE Namaha Paasuram-86 *"vuLankaNdAi nannenjE vuththama nendRum* * vuLankaNdAi vuLLuvAruLLath-thulankaNdAi* * thannoppAn thAnA vuLankAn tamiyERkku* * ennopArkku eesan emai"* * * In the previous paasurams, thirumazhisaipiran elucidated the characteristics of the supreme lord's svaroopa, roopa, guna and vibhoothi (nature, appearance, behaviour and wealth). Now he edifies his mind saying, "Oh! Mind I have pacified all those who talked the non-existence of bhagavan with my deciphers so don't you ever lose faith" (vuLan kaNdAi) Azhvar is now not talking about the very existence of bhagavan since his mind has already comprehended the svaroopa, roopa, guna and vibhooti's of the supreme lord. Now he is instructing the mind to view emperuman as the saviour. He is the only protector who can save us from any sort of danger that cannot be overcome by self or with the help of others. (nannenjE) good enough to listen to these admonitions. The mind is good since it doesn't even stop with listening; it is even capable of preaching the same to others. "nenjamE! Nallai nallai vunnaippeRRAl en senyOmini enna kuRaivinam" (thiru 1-10-4) Does emperuman expect anything in return for protecting us? (vuLan kaNdAi nannenjE vuththaman) He is "vuththaman" who does everything unconditionally. One who does anything only for his welfare is called "adhaman" One who does anything for the welfare of himself and others is called "madhyaman" One who does anything solely for the welfare of others is adorned as "vuththaman"; Andal celebrates emperuman as "Ongi vulagalandha vuththaman" Emperuman has guarded all of us due to his unconditional grace till today what about the future? (vuththaman endRum vuLan kandAi) His grace will be there for ever not only in this world but also in the other world where we will enjoy the ultimate bliss. What special qualities do we have to develop to receive his unconditional grace? (vuLLuvAr vuLLaththu vuLan kaNdAi) If by chance one happens to think about bhagavat vishayam and without ignoring the thought he chooses to enjoy it then immediately emperuman comes and sits in his heart; the only required qualification is acceptance (tannoppAn eesan) nothing can be equated to him. No examples can elucidate him. He alone can protect unconditionally. (eesan) Since he is the owner he is destined to save us (his property) (tamiyERkku ennoppArkku thAnAyuLan kAn) He is saviour of me (one without any protection) and everyone like me (paramaikanthis) (tamiyERkku) left alone "noRRa nOnbilEn nuNNaRivilEn" absolutely no effort to lift myself from this ocean of samsAra. So the best place for his sympathy ("anuththamam pAthra midham dayAyA:) (thAnAyuLan) he is the renowned guard (svaroopa niroopaga dharmam) (emai) know this fact * (To Be Continued)*** Azhvar emperumAnAr Jeeyer thiruvadigalE sharaNam Adiyen ramanuja dAsee Sumithra Varadarajan * * * *
